So was it Thursday evening at 8 o'clock, in the beautiful home of Maj. and Mrs. H. L. Grant, 307 William street, in this city, when their youngest daughter, Miss Minnie Elliott Grant, and Mr. Clarence Edwin Wilkins, of Manning, S. C., stood together before the officiating minister, Rev. C. A. Jenkins, and plighted their troth each to the other, in the presence of the immediate families and a small circle of near relatives and intimate friends. The lovely home was artistically decorated in ferns, palms and roses, and Mendlessohon's Wedding March was rendered by Miss Mabel Borden, and, during the ceremony, as a soft refrain, with sweetly sympathetic effect, "O, Promise Me." The groom entered with his best man and brother, Rev. Walter Wilkins, of Clyde, N. C., and the maid of honor, Miss Annie Norwood, of Greenville, S. C., wearing white organdie and carrying pink roses, entered with Mr. Louis N. Grant, brother of the bride. Then came the bride with her father, and gowned in rich rose silk, with a circlet of pearls, the gift of the groom. She carried a shower bouquet of white carnations, and was lovely, indeed, to behold in this sweet coronation ceremony of her life. The bridal presents were many and beautiful, and of rare value, and evidenced the cordial popularity of the young couple with their many friends. They left on the 9:37 train for their future home in Manning, taking with them the abiding good wishes of our entire community, where the fair young bride is held in highest esteem by her wide circle of admiring friends, and where her ever-willing aid will be greatly missed in all church work and needy charities. Those from a distance in attendance on the happy event were: Mrs. Evan Wilkins, mother of the groom, Manning, S. C.; Rev. Walter Wilkins, Clyde, N. C.; Miss Annie Norwood, Greenville, S. C., and Mrs. and Mrs. J. F. Bowles, Statesville, N. C. Mrs. Bowles, sister of the bride, will remain here for some weeks, on a visit to her parents.
