Wayne County, NC - Wright Smith to Ann Gibson, 1850

  Articles of agreement made between WRIGHT SMITH of the County
  of Wayne and state of North Carolina of the first part and ANN GIBSON
  of the same state and County of Onslow, Daughter of DANIEL GIBSON
  of the second part Witnesseth that whereas a Marriage is shortly
  intended to be had and Solemnized between the said WRIGHT SMITH
  and the said ANN GIBSON do enter into and make the following agree-
  ment (before marriage) that is to say first the said WRIGHT SMITH for
  himself his heirs Executors administrates and assigns doth covenant
  and agree with the said ANN GIBSON her heirs Executors administrators
  and assigns that she shall and may have and enjoy all the Right and 
  title in and to all the property of every description that she is now 
  seized and possessed of with the Exception of the use of the same for 
  the common benefit of Each party while we shall both live and at the 
  death of the said WRIGHT SMITH she may and shall have the sole right 
  to dispose of the same or so much thereof as may then be in existence
  as she may think best
       In consideration of Which I the said ANN GIBSON doth agree and
  covenant with the said WRIGHT SMITH my intended husband that he
  shall and may enjoy the right both in Law and in Equity in and to all 
  the property that he is now seized and possessed of an that he may 
  here after come in possession of and I agree to release all my right 
  title and interest to the same that I other wise might have by virtue 
  of the said intended marriage to the said WRIGHT SMITH his heirs 
  Executors administrators or assigns against myself my heirs Executors 
  administrators and assigns forever and it is further agreed to by 
  the said WRIGHT SMITH and the said ANN GIBSON that the property of 
  each shall only be bound for the payment of the debts of the one who 
  contracts them that is if the said WRIGHT SMITH shall contract debts 
  his property shall pay the same and if the said ANN GIBSON shall at 
  ant time contract a debt or debts whether before or after marriage 
  her property shall pay the same and we the said WRIGHT SMITH and the 
  said ANN GIBSON agree and bind ourselves our heirs Executors and 
  administrators that we will not take exceptions or raise objections 
  to any part or portion of the above contract neither in Law nor in 
  Equity
      In witness whereof we hereunto set our hands and seals the 22nd
  day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred
  and fifty
