Wayne County, NC - Will & Estate Records File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Barbara Kawamoto NC Archives Doctr Andrew Bass, Senr-1790 In the name of God Amen I Andrew Bass Senr of the State of North Carolina and County of Wayne being in perfect senses and memory blessed be Almighty God do make ordain appoint and constitute this my last will and Testament in manner & form following my soul I give to Almighty God from whom I recd it, my Body I commit to the Earth to be buried in a Christian decent manner at the discretion of my Executors and as for what worldly good it hath pleased God to bestow on me I give and bequeath in manner & form following Viz First, I lend to my beloved Wife Alice Bass my plantation on the Thorough Fare swamp during her natural life or widowhood and at her death or marriage to be return’d to my Daughter Anna Bass not allowing any more land to be cleared on the side of the swamp where the plantation is nor any use made of Oak Timber, I also give and bequeath to my beloved Wife Alice Bass to her, her heirs & assigns forever One Negro Man named big Frank & One Negroe Woman named Lucy Two Feather Beds & furniture One Sorrell mare & Colt Bridle & saddle the mare known by the name of Sorrell & my bold Horse the Stock of Cattle running at the place the number being twenty four head Five sows and pigs and Bacon or pork sufficient for the first year and Sixty Barrels of Corn, Five ewe and lambs Two pots & pot hooks one skillet one frying pan one half of my pewter knives & forks and crockery ware and one half of the geese Two plows one axe one graveling hoe & two weeding hoes two Chests Table & half dozen Chairs one Linnen and one wooden wheel One Tub two pails two piggins on loom and gears one hundred weight of seed Cotton & fifty weight of Swingled Flaxe, and Fifty pounds to be laid out in building her a Dwelling House on the plantation above mentioned Turn over Secondly I give and bequeath to Jerediah Foley & his Heirs forever, Two hundred pounds to be laid out in two young Negroes, also One young Stud Horse I am now raising named Tammerlin Thirdly & Lastly I give and bequeath to my beloved Daughter Anna Bass and her Heirs forever the whole of my lands & plantations and all my Town Lotts and the remainder of my Negroes Viz Aberdain, little Frank, Jim, Bob, Will, Jack, Harry, Simon, George & Ned, Hannah, Rose, Flora, Arnia, Nell, Rine, Cate, Doll, Bett, Little Rose, Tamer & Mary, and all my Debts due to me or hereafter shall become due with all my stock of very kind and all my Household Goods plantation Tools and all other of my Estate whatever in whose hands Care keeping or Custody whatever the same Can or may be found Further my will is that my hereafter nam’d Extrs shall yearly rent out my mill & lands in different Tracks or parcels as they shall see Cause having the mill House & plantation kept in good repair not suffering any land to be cleared nor Oak Timber to be cutt down nor deeded Likewise to hire out the Negroes yearly, & to sell the remainder of any Estate at Six Months Credit, Except one mare and colt known by the name of Flag my beds & furniture pewter & crockery ware One Chest & Books & to keep the money arising therefrom after my Just Debts & Legacies is paid on Interest until my s'd Daughter Anna Bass marries or arrives to the age of Twenty one years Also it is my Will that my beloved Wife has the use of Rose Hannah Bett George Little, Rose, James, Ned and Mary During her Widowhood or until such time as my s'd Daughter Anna Bass marries or arrives to the age of Twenty one years provided that my s'd Wife will raise and cloath the children that now is born or hereafter shall be born by the female Negroes afor'd taking those that is to be Born at the age of one year Turn over Furthermore I Empower & authorize any Extrs to sell the remainder of my Estate & that without calling on any Sheriff whatever But if they see Cause to Employ the sheriff of the County or any other person they think proper to allow them Twenty Shillings per day for selling & making return to Court on Oath Further it is my Will that my Daughter Anna Bass be Rais’d and school'd, at the descretion of my Estrs & I appoint nominate Ordain & constitute Uriah Bass Col William Dickson & Needham Whitfield Extrs of this my last will and Testament & I hereby revoke & disannull all former Will or wills heretofore by me made acknowledging this to be my last will and Testament, In Witness whereof I the s'd Andrew Bass Sr have hereunto set my hand and seal this 30th Day of October 1790 Andrew Bass {seal} Sign'd Seal’d Publish’d & declar’d By the Testator to be his last will & Testament in present off us Wm Morton Charles Hase Susanna Hase ============================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
