Devised June 4, 1824, Proven February Term, 1828. In the name of God Amen. I Patience Aycock, widow of the late Jesse Aycock, of the County of Waynesborough and State of North Carolina being very sick and weak in body and of perfect mind and memory, Thanks be given unto God, calling unto mind the Mortality of my Body and Knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to Die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, That is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my Soul into the Hand of Almighty God that gave it, and my Body I Recommend to the earth to be Buried in decent Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executor Hardy Williamson, Nothing doubting But at the general Resurrection I Shall receive the same again, by the mighty power of God. And as touching such worldly Estate Wherewith it has pleased God to Bless me in this Life, I give, demise, and Dispose of the same in the following Manner and form. First, I give and bequeath to my Dearly beloved Son Joel Newsom one negro Woman by Name Rose during his lifetime that is to say I lend her to him during his lifetime. Also, I lend to my well beloved Daughter Bethana one Bed and Furniture, one Chest, and Side Saddle during her lifetime and after her death her Son Newsom Barnes to have the same Bed and furniture, Chest, and saddle. And also I give to the said Joel Newsom [Barnes marked out] my Racoon Hat. And all the Rest of my property I give my four Children to be equally divided that is to Zilpha, Sally Williamson, Bethana Barnes, Joel Newsom the following property, namely two weeding hoes, one hand saw, one claw hammer, one drawing Knife, six pewter plates, one pewter dish, and six spoons, one set of cups and saucers, three _____ plates and tumblers, and I give all my wearing apparel to my three daughters and all my cotton?, wool, and flax and spooling wheel to be equally divided amongst them. And also I give to my daughter Bethana one Black silk Handkerchief. And my daughter Anne Newsom another Black silk Handkerchief. And also if there is any other property that belongs to me that have not named in the will, I leave it to my said four children to be equally divided among them. And I Ratify and confirm this and no other, to be my last Will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal, this fourth Day of June in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight Hundred and twenty four. Signed, sealed, published, pronounced and Declared by the said Patience Aycock as her Last Will and Testament. In the presence of us who in her presence, and in the presence of each other, have hereto Subscribed our names. Test.
