Wayne County, NC - Will of Simon Barnes, 1811 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ State of North Carolina Wayne County In the name of God. I SIMON BARNES am in proper health thanks be to God and calling to mind the mortality of my body Knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say first of all I gave my Soul into the hand of God that gave it and my body to be Beriad (buried) in a Deasent (decent) maner (manner) at the descresion (discretion) of my Executors and as touching my worldly estate wherein God hath Blest me with in this life I gave and devise and Dispose of in manner and form as follows. I Lend to my beloved wife, MARY BARNES the plantation whereon I now live as long as she lives and fifty Dollars and Ten head of cattle and one feather bed and furniture and Three Negroes TOM, BEN and SAL and all the other Kind of stock all my crop working tools household goods that is not willed in Legesses (legacies) I gave my son WILLIAM BARNES one Negro named LIGE I gave to my son SAMUEL BARNES Two Negroes named BEN and SARAH I gave to my Grandaughter SILLER BARNES Daughter of SIMON BARNES Decest (deceased) one feather bed and furniture I gave to my son JOHN BARNES one hundred acres of land lying on the south side of the Juniper Swamp and two Negroes named JOE and HANNER I gave to my daughter BETEY NEWSOM one Negro named DICK I gave to my daughter MARY BARNES one bed and furniture one table one sarl ?? and riggin ?? one cow and calf one Saddle one pot two wheels two Negroes named SAL and SEFER I gave to my daughter CHRISTIAN NEWSOM one Negro named EDEY I gave to my daughter SARAH DICKINSON one Negro named LUCE I gave to my grandaughter LISILA BARNES the daughter of MARY BARNES one bed and furniture I gave to my son DREWRY BARNES five hundred and sixty acres of land whereon I now live lying between the fork of the great Branch and the Great Swamp and on the south side of the said swamp one horse named Larry one saddle and bridle two beds and furniture two cows and calves one ____ (may be hog) one trunk one ax two hoes one ______ desk one _____ table and all my Sider Casts and three Negroes named TOM, JACK and ROSE one yoke of oxen and cart and half of my crops of all sorts housed or not housed one Still.
