Devised September 9, 1789, Proven January Court, 1791. In the Name of God Amen, I John Barnes of Waine County in the State of North Carolina Calling to mind the mortallity of my Body knowing that it is apointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my Last Will and testament and first of all, I Commend my Sole into the hands of God that gave it and my Body to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian manner at the Discretion of my Executors Nothing Doubling But at the general Resurection I Shall Receive the Same again by the mighty Power of God and as touching such worldly Estate as it hath Prased God to Bless me With in this Lief I give and Dispose in manner and form as follows - first of all I Lend to my Beloved Wife Christian Barnes five Negroes Jack, Gin, Zel, Ben and Isaac with fourteene hed of Cattle and twenty hed of Sheepe and four fether beds and furniture and the use of my Plantation and fifty hed of hoggs and all my houshold goods with two horses Bridels and Saddles and forty Pound in money During her Natral Lief or Widehood and after her Deceas to be Devided in manner and forme as follows - I give and Bequeth to my Son Symon Barns one Negro Boy named Ben and also one third of my Still. I give to my Son Samuel Barnes half my Still and ten Pound hard money. I give to my Son Benjamin Barnes five Shiilings Sterling - I give to my three Daughters Elizabeth Daniel, Christian Farmer, and Zilpha Farmer one Negro Woman named Gin to be Equally Devided Betwixt them. I give to my Daughter Barsheba Homes one Negro boy by the name of Isaac. I give to my Son John Barnes my Plantation and one Negro fellow named Jack.
