Wayne County, NC - Will of Rigdon Best, 1839

     I RIGDON BEST of the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina
being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertinty (sic)
of my Earthly Existence do make and declare this my Last Will and
Testament in manner and Form Following that is to say First that my 
Executor herein after named Shall Provide for my body a decent burial
sutible (sic) the wishes of Relatives and friends and Pay all funeral
Expenses to gether (sic) with my Just debts however & to whomso-
ever owing out of the money that may first Come into his hands as a
part of parcel of my Estate.
ITEM  I give and devise to my beloved wife JEROME BEST one half of 
my negroes and half of my Land During her natural life or widowhood
and then to my Daughters SMITHEY BEST  SALLY BEST  REBECKEY
ELIZABETH BEST and the Baland (balance) of My Property not given
I _______  remander (sic) of my Estate not disposed of one negro man
Loderick and negro woman sell & Children named Carolin  Richard  
Pat & John Alen negro boy Martin.
I do hereby Constitute and appoint my Friends R.W. BEST and BRIGHT
my Lawful Executors to all Intents and purposes to Execute this my 
last will and Testament according to the True intent and meaning of
the Same and Every Part and Clause thereof - hereby revoking and
declaring utterly void all other wills and Testaments by me heretofore
made. In witness  Whereof I the said RIGDON BEST do hereunto Set
my hand and Seal the 15th of December 1839.

(This was on a separate piece of paper and not dated)
Rigdon Best, son of Rigdon Best dec'd by his guardian John Everett
comes into Court & offers for probate a paper writing bearing date
the 15th of December 1839, which he claims to be the Last Will &
Testament of Rigdon Best dec'd & the wife Jerome Best the widow
of the dec'd come into Court and filed a (Five more lines that I just
cannot read. I don't know if the will was ever probated.)
