Wayne County, NC - Will & Estate Records Will of Britton Hood - 1846 In the name of God Amen I Britton Hood of the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina being sick and week of body but of perfect mind do make and ordain this Instrument of writing to be my Last Will and Testament that is to say First I lend to my Wife Katharine all the land below the Asher field that I reserved for her in a deed that I give to my son William B Hood during her Natural lifetime Item I give to my son Daniel T Hood the land whereon I now live lying on the South side of the Horse swamp and bounded as follows Viz, Begining at a Blackgum in the main run of Falling Creek William B Hoods lower corner and runs with his lines as N 87 Wt 412 poles to a pine on the South side of the big meadow then N 80 Wt 139 poles to a sweet gum in a pond then N 29 Wt 60 poles to a large dead top pine near the head of the mill branch then N 70 Wt 180 poles to a stake in the Bennett line then S 48 Wt 12 1/2 poles to two post oakes and pointers William B Hoods and Hiram Grantham corner then with a line of marked trees as N 79 Wt 29 poles to a fou & aft pine then N 77 Wt 15 poles to a fou aft pine then N 75 Wt 53 poles to a stake then N 25 Et 77 poles to a large Blackgum on the run of a branch then down the run of sd branch as it meanders about 45 poles to a white oak down in that part of the branch then N 2 Wt 131 poles to a ___ oak at the corner of the field then N 14 Wt 271 poles to a pine Then N 11 Et 48 3/4 poles to a stake in Frederick Granthams line then S 58 3/4 Et 22 poles to a black oak down and Locust tree by Tadlocks old well then N 30 Et 20 poles to the run of the Horse swamp John R Hoods upper corner then down the run of sd Horse swamp as it meanders Including the saw Mill and half the Grist mill to the main run of Falling Creek then up the main run of Falling Creek as it meanders to the first station Containing one Thousand acres I also give two acres of land in the fork of the road for a meeting house Item It is my Will and desire that all my parishabele property consisting of all my Negroes of Every Discription Farming tools of every discription Stock of every discription Crop of every discription Household and Kitchen Furniture of every discription and my surveying instruments to be sold by my Executor hereafter named on a Twelve months credit and the money arising from the sale together with my notes after paying my just Debts to be Equally divided beweeen the following named persons to wit, my wife Katherin John R Hood Britton Hood Junr Robert S Hood William B Hood Caziah Brogden & Daniel T Hood Item 4th I give to my grand daughter Polly Grantham one hundred dollars Item 5th I give to my grand daughter Zilpha Overman one hundred dollars Item 6th I also Give to my grand daughter Elizabeth Benson one hundred dollars Item 7th I give the above named Legates to them their heirs and assigns forever Item 8th I also give my Daughter Elizabeth Holomon one Dollar Item 9th I also give my son Daniel T Hood my Still and what belongs to it Lastly hereby I nominate and appoint my son John R Hood Executor of this my last Will and Testament Revoking all other former Wills and Testaments by me made Declaring this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament in Witness whereof I have unto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date here under written October 28th Day 1846 Britton Hood {Seal} Sign'd Seal'd & Delivered in the presence of us Zachariah Parker Frederick Grantham William R Parker Wayne County May Term 1848 Then was the above will of Britton Hood produced in open court & offered for probate & was duly proved by the oath of Zackariah Parker & Frederick Grantham two subscribing witness & ordered to be recorded at the same time Jno R Hood Executor therein named appeared in open court & qualified as such with letters testimentary upon the said Jno R Hood Jno A Green Clk ============================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
