All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by Guy Potts - egpotts@gmail.com I Stanton Cox of the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina Being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say Item I give and devise to my beloved wife Sally Cox the land and plantation whereon I now live together with the appertances there unto belonging except two peaces of land whitch I will endeavor to dissignate so as to be layed off from the others viz First piece beginning at a rock Willis Halls corner south of the meeting house then with the road nearby north to a small branch that croses the road just below the peach orchard & then turns to the cross fence that divides the mill field from the sand hill field then a straight line to the river bank Second piece beginning in Thos Kennedys line in the run of the Sawpit Branch then down the various courses of said branch to a barge cyprus on the river bank Isaac H Coxes corner Now therefore it is my will and desire that my beloved wife Sally Cox for and during her naturel life have a fee simple right to the ballance of said land & improvements during her natural life I give and bequeath to my beloved wife one buggy & harness three head of horis her chois four cows & calves & four head of young cattle her choice five sows 2 pigs & twenty shoats her choice, also one work steer & two carts 2 wheels & all of my farming tools of every discripton & all the gear also one years provision for herself and family say 2500 lb of pork & two hundred lbs of lard & one tin stand oven & above what lard comes out of the pork, and fifty lbls of good corn after the pork is fattened fifty bushels of wheet ten blade stacks of fodder her choice half the shucks that comes of the crop two hundred lbs of brown sugar ten gallons of molases fifty lbs of coffee all the honey on hand & the jars that contain it one pickel jar one lb vinegar one loaf of sugar three lbs peper two lb spice one lb of ginger all the soap & soap grease on hand one hundred bushels of sweet potatoes ten bushels of sweet peas fifty lbs of picked cotten all the poultry on hand Item As regards my olds son Isaac H Cox I have given and divised heretofore unto him a full shair of my estate for whitch he must be therewith content Item I give and devise to my son Jesse J Cox all the land and plantation whereon I now live except the lifetime of my wife together with the peace that I layed off on the south end of my land to have and to hold with all and singular the appertinances thereunto belonging in fee simple forever Also I give and bequeath to my son Jesse J Cox one burrow also one eight day clock two beds & furniture as his absolute property in fee simple forever Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Sophona P Cox two beds & furniture forever Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Ashsah R Cox two beds & furniture forever Item I give and bequeath to Elizabeth A Cox two beds & furniture forever Item It is my will and desire that my executors herein after named sell the land that I have taken of on the north end of my land in a former clause of my will to the best advantage for my minor heirs Item I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sally Cox all of my house hold & kitchen furniture except what I have heretofore given away and also to have the care of the minor children beds & furniture untill they arive to the age of twenty one years or marry Item My will & desire is that all the residue of my estate after taking out the devises and legacies above mentioned be sold and the debts owing to me collected and after paying the expenses & the ballance to be equally divided between my four daughters viz Sally W Perkins Sophrona P Cox Ashsah R Cox & Elizabeth A Cox in equal proportions shar and shar alike to them & their heirs and assigns absolutely forever And lastly I do hereby constitue and appoint my trusty friends Jesse Coleman & Isaac H Cox my lawful executors to all intents and purposes to execute this my last will and testament according to the true intent and meaning of the same and every part & clause thereof hereby revoking and declaring utterly void all other wills and testaments by me heretofore made. Grantham & Ezekiel Perkins the subscribing witnesses thereto and is duly proved and admitted to probate & is ordered to be recorded.
