Wayne County, NC - Will of Richard Croom, 1805

  In the name of God Amen, I  RICHARD CROOM of Wayne County and
  N. Carolina being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and
  memory thanks be given unto God  Calling to mind the mortality of my
  Body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die do make and
  ordain this my last will & testament. That is to say principally and 
  first of all I give and recomend my soal into the hand of Almighty 
  God that gave it and my body I recomend to the earth to be buried in 
  decent christian burial at the diserstion ? or the decrestion of my 
  executors.
  And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God
  to bless me in this life. I give devise and dispose of the same in 
  the following manner and form.
  FIRST  I give and bequath to NANCY CROOM my dearly beloved Wife 
  one childs part of all my Negroes her part to be taken out of the 
  Negroes where I now live also all the Cattle Hogs and sheep that
  belongs to this plantation one Crib of Corn in the shuck and all the 
  crop off every kind now growing on said land and the crop growing on 
  the place where Jiles Williams lived and the wheat all ready cut and 
  all my plantation utenshalls  of every kind one yoke of oxen and two 
  carts beloning to said plantation one large black mare and Colt _____ 
  two mules to her and her heirs forever and the plank Scantlon & 
  Shingles that I have propard to build a house one hundred Silver 
  Dollars two bolts of lennin and my wering apperrell. I also lend my 
  Dearly beloved Wife NANCY the lands and plantation that I bought of 
  Col. Ben Sheppard during of hur natral life & all my household and 
  kitchen furniture of every kind except Books during of hur widow Hood 
  then to be divided between my wife and children male and female share 
  and share a like. I give to my wife NANCY CROOM one riding cheir and 
  Harness and all the Gear or Gees (not sure) and pottery and ten 
  bushels of Salt the bacon and Beef in the Smoak House.
  SECOND  I five to my mail heirs two thirds of all my lands to be 
  eaqually divided Share and Share alike.
  THIRD  I give to my female heirs one third of all my lands to be 
  eaqually Share and Share alike.
  FOURTHLY  I give all my slaves not given to my wife to all my 
  children mail and femail share and share alike except one Negro boy 
  Jacob which I give to my son WILEY on account of his Infermities each 
  child to receive his part as they come of Lawful age or Marrys.
  FIFTHLY  I give all my money in hand all my Notes of hands and Book
  Acounts and all the money arising from the sail of my pirashable
  property to be Colleted as soon as posible and laid out for land and
  said land to be divided between all my children mail and feemail 
  agree-able to the ______  ______  ______ ______ of my Will

  SIXTHLY (first three sentences mostly missing, something about land)
  If not sold before my death my Will is that one or more of Executors 
  May Sell it privably or Publickly as they may think best not giving a 
  credit of more than nine months
  SEVENTHLY  My Will and Desire is that all my Just Debts be paid
  EIGHTHLY  And lastly I nominate and appoint my friends JOHN GARLAND
  and my two Brothers HARDY and WILLIAM CROOM and my son JOHN
  CROOM after he shall arrive of the age of twenty one Executors of 
  this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow 
  revoke and disannull all and every other former Testaments Wills by 
  me before made or mentioned ratifying and Confurming this and no 
  other to bee my last Will and Testament  In witness whereof I have 
  hereunto set my hand and seal this __ th day of (Jan., Jun. or Jul.,
