Wayne County, NC - Will of Simon Herring, 1819

In the name of God. Amen
     I SIMON HERRING of Wayne County State of North Carolina
     of perfect sound mind and memory do make and publish my
     last will and testament as follows viz:
1st  I give and bequeath to my sons JAMES and JOSEPH
     HERRING five shillings Each to them their heirs or assigns
     forever and I hereby confirm the title to them of all the 
     property I have heretofore put into their possession.
2nd  I give and bequeath to my son SIMON HERRING, one horse
     his choice saddle and bridle two cows & calves _____
     Ewes & Lambs and all the hogs now called his to him and 
     his heirs or assigns forever.
3rd  My will and desire is that my single daughters & my son
     SIMON who now live with me may continue to live with their
     Mother & be supported out of the fund hereafter set apart for
     the support of the family and assist in the household and 
     plantation business.
4th  I hereby direct my executors to hire out annually my Negros
     Luke, Ned & Nanny and to make sale of such part of my stock
     or other articles as they may think proper.
5th The rest of my stock not willed away nor sold by my executors
     together with Negro Esther & her child Grip, my corn, meat, peas,
     wheat & fodder, household and kitchen furniture, flax & cotton
     and farming utensils together with the hire of the Negros 
     aforesaid and monies that may be due my estate I leave to my 
     beloved wife RACHEL during her widowhood and for her support & the 
     support of the family after paying my just debts.
6th  After the death or marriage of my wife RACHEL all the aforesaid 
     property loaned to my wife and family together with Negros Luke
     Ned & Nanny I leave to be sold and the monies to be equally 
     divided among all my daughters, NANCY, SUCKEY, ELIZABETH,
     MOURNING, POLLY & RACHEL to them their heirs or assigns forever.
     Lastly, I constitute and appoint my son JAMES HERRING and my 
     Friend GRADY HERRING Executors of this my will ratifying and 
     Confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament 
     revoking all others.
     In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal 27th March
     1817.
