First - It is my will and desire that my executor hereafter named shall sell all of my lands and perishable estate except so much as is herein after bequeathed to my wife and the proceeds arising from the sale thereof after paying my just debts to be equally divided between my wife and children. Secondly - I give and bequeath to my beloved wife my house and lots in Everittsville during her life and all of my household and kitchen furniture of every name and kind. I also give her my sorrel horse and buggy and harness and one cow and calf. I also direct and authorize my executor to lay off and apportion to my wife a comfortable years support for herself and family. Thirdly - It is my will and desire that my negroes and all the residue of my estate should be equally divided between my wife and children. And lastly - I do hereby nominate and appoint my friend John C. Slocumb my executor to execute this my last will and testament and I do further more request him to take the Guardianship of my children and to keep their negroes in common stock and hire them out from year to year until they shall arrive at the age of twenty one years. Wm Hollowell (Seal) Signed Sealed and declared to be the last will and testament of Wm Hollowell in presence of Wm Carraway and D F McKinne Wayne Court Augt Term 1854 Then was the foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of William Hollowell dec'd propounded for probate by John C. Slocumb the executor named therein and the same is duly proved by the oath of William Carraway and David F. McKinne who say that the said William Hollowell published the said paper writing as his last will and testament in their presence and in the presence of each other and that they the said Wm Carraway and David F. McKinne signed the said writing as witnesses in the presence and at the request of the said Wm Hollowell and in the presence of each other and that the said Wm Hollowell was at the time of sound and disposing mind and memory whereupon it is considered by the court that the said paper writing is the last will and testament of the said William Hollowell and it is ordered that the same be recorded and filed. And the said John C. Slocumb is qualified as executor thereto by taking the oath prescribed by law. Benj. Aycock Clk ----- Notice To the debtors and creditors of William Hollowell dec'd late of the county of Wayne. At August Term 1854 of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions of the county of Wayne, letters testamentary upon the estate of Wm Hollowell dec'd late of said county were duly granted by said court to the subscriber who at the same time qualified as executor of the said deceased. All persons indebted to the estate of the said deceased are hereby notified to make payment without delay; and those having claims and demands are requested to present them for payment within the time prescribed by law or they will be barred of recovery by virtue of the act of assembly in such cases made and provided. August 22nd 1854 J. C. Slocumb Exer. State of North Carolina Wayne County This day John Everitt of the county of Wayne personally appeared before me W. S. G. Andrews Esq. one of the Justices of the Peace of said county who being duly sworn maketh oath and sayeth that on the 24th day of August 1854 he saw a true copy of the foregoing notice posted up at the courthouse of the county of Wayne, where the said Wm Hollowell dec'd usually dwelt and also he saw true copies of the said notice posted up at the following named other public places in said county Viz at the store of Mr. Haskins in Everittsville and also at the store of Andrews and Washington in Goldsboro. In witness whereof the said affiant hath hereunto signed his name and I have also affixed my hand and seal this 24th day of August 1854 John Everitt W. S. G. Andrews J.P.
