I Ann W. Hooks of the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina do make and ordain this instrument or writing to be and contain my last will and testament in manner and form following (Viz). Item 1st - I give and bequeath unto my beloved sister Mary M. Knox wife of Dr. Franklin Knox lotts and improvements in the village of Everittsville whereon I now reside also the following named Negro slaves Viz, Martha and her two children Laura and Mariam with all their future increase to her and her heirs forever. Item 2nd - I loan to my beloved niece Susan Revis daughter of Turner Revis my Negro slave Roma. I also give to the said Susan Revis two beds, bedsteads and furniture and should the said Susan Revis leave any child or children her surviving or the issue of any such child or children then and in that case I give to such child or children or their issue the said girl Roma together with all her increase but in case the said Susan Revis should die leaving no child or children or the issue of such her surviving then and in that event I give the said girl Roma with all her increase to my beloved sister Mary M. Knox to her and her heirs forever. Item 3rd - It is my will and desire that my executor hereinafter named sell all the balance of my property of ever kind and description and the proceeds therefrom together with any moneys or the evidences of debt due to me at the time of my death, be appropriated as follows: first to the paying of my funeral expenses and to the payment of all my just debts and if any balance be remaining it is my will and desire that my executor pay to the Justices of the Methodist Church in Everittsville one hundred dollars and to the trustees of the Methodist church in Kinston one hundred dollars and if any balance be still remaining, I give the same to my beloved sister Mary M. Knox to her and her heirs forever. I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my friend David B. Everitte Executor to this my last will and testament.
