Of Wayne County in the State of North Carolina being of perfect mind and memory to make and ordain this for my last Will and Testament and dispose of my estate in manner following to witt. ITEM: I lend to my beloved wife Darkis Howell during her natural life or widowhood the plantation whereon I now live and two hundred acres of land belonging to it and eight Negroes nam’d as followeth Fillis, Cado, Mackel, Frank, Mornning, Penny, Grace, and Luke, also all my horses, cattle, sheep, hogs and household goods and my still. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son John Howell gardener one Negro boy nam’d Ben. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son William Howell and my son Thomas Howell all the land that I purchased of Col. Burwell Moring lying on the slew to be equally to be divided between them two sons and also I give to my son William Howell one Negro boy nam’d Jacob and also I give to my son Thomas Howell one Negro boy nam’d Redick. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my son Arter Howell and my son Bobb Howell all the land lying on the North side of the Beaver Dam branch as I hold by pattains and deed and also I give to my son Arter Howell one Negro woman nam’d Rose and also I give to my son Bobb Howell one Negro boy nam’d Forris and my will and desire is that my Negro boy Mingo should be equally divided between my two sons William Howell and Bobb Howell. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Sally Howell one Negro girl nam’d Amy, also one feather bedstead and furniture. Also I give and bequeath to my two sons, Exum Howell and Dread Howell after the death or marriage of their mother Darkis Howell all the land that I hold on the South side of the Beaver dam branch by deed pattain or grant and the said land to be equally divided between my two sons, I mean Exum Howell and Dread Howell and also five Negroes nam’d as followeth Cado, Rachel, Penny, Grace and Luke and like wife one still to be equally to be divided between my two sons after the death or marriage of their mother Darkis Howell. ITEM: I give and bequeath to my daughter Betse Howell after the death or marriag marriage of her mother Darkis Howell two Negroes nam’d Mornning and Frank and also one feather bed bedstead and furniture and it is my will and desire that all the rest of my estate that I have not given away by legises at the death or marriage of my wife to be equally to be divided amongst all my sons and daughte daughters, I make and ordain constitute and appoint my two sons Thomas Howell and Arter Howell my whole and executors of this my last Will and Testament disannu disannulling and revoaking all other wills by me made in witness hereof whereun whereunto I have set my hand and seal this 11th day of May one thousand seven hundred and ninety six.
