NOTE: According to John Croom, this Jesse was the son of Daniel Croom and his second wife, Susannah. His wife was Mary, surname unknown. In the name of God Amen, I Jesse Croom of the County of Wayne in the State of North Carolina being of sound and perfect mind and memory Blessed be God. Do this Second day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred and twelve make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in manner and form following. That is to say. First. My will and desire is that all my Just debts be paid out of the money which is due me. Secondly. I give and Bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Croom Two negroes by the names of Phillis & Nelley and their Increase and all my Horses and Stock of every Kind and all my Household and Kitchen Furniture, and the Balance of the Money that is due me (If any) after paying my debts I also lend to my said wife Mary during her natural life all the negroes that I am now in possession of and the Land and Plantation whereon I now live, and I also give to her all the Plantation Tools that I have a right to. Thirdly. I lend to my daughter Elizabeth Langston during her life negroes Jinney & Hester and their Increase, at her death I give said negroes and their Increase to my Grand Children Susannah Tetterton, Needham Langston, Richard Langston and Mary Langston, to be equally divided amongst them. Fourthly. I give and Bequeath to my Son Charles Croom, one negro Boy named Samson after my wifes death. Fifthly I give and Bequeath to my Son Jesse Croom one negro Girl named Tenah & her Increase, after my wifes death. Sixthly I lend to daughter Mary Griffin, during her life one Negro named Clarkey and her increase one Cow and Calf, one Feather Bed and furniture & after the death of the said Mary I give the said property to her Heirs lawfully begotten of her Body, this property she has now in possession. Seventhly I lend to my Daughter Susannah Howell during her life one negro named Chloe and one Feather Bed & Furniture after the death of the said Susannah, I give the said property and the Increase to the Heirs lawfully Begotten of her Body. This property and the Increase to the Heirs lawfully Begotten of her Body. This property she now in possession. Eighthly I lend to my Daughter Sarah Coor during her life one negro named Fan & her increase and one Feather Bed and furniture, at the death of the said Sarah I give the said property and the Increase to the Heirs lawfully begotten of her Body, This property she has now in possession. Ninthly I lend to my Daughter Zilpha Davis during her life one negro named Rose and her increase and one Feather Bed and furniture, at the death of the said Zilpha I give and the said property to the Heirs lawfully Begotten of her body. This property she has now in possession. Tenthly I give and Bequeath to my Grand daughter Nancy White Croom, (after my wifes death) one negro named Esther and her increase. Lastly I hereby Constitute and appoint my Sons Charles Croom and Major Croom Executors of this my last Will and Testament in Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal the day and date afroesaid.
