Wayne County, NC - Arthur Jones Will, 1829 ¤¤¤¤¤¤ Will of Arthur Jones Wayne County 1829 I, Arthur Jones, Sen do agree & make the following proposition (viz) To divide my Estate between my five children namely Arthur Jones Jr, Lydia Jernigan, Sally Langly, Nancy Howell & Charlott Smith and my grandchild Polly Laper in the following manner divided by Tamson Lane, Michajah Cox, William Raiford, John Kennedy and John Wright in equal lots (viz) 1st I lend my son Arthur Jones Jr the following property his equal proportion in the distribution made by said committee that may be allotted to his drawn number consisting of the articles as follows the James Jones field the mouth branch ditto & burnt do the groundsfield at the Fellows place & the long field and the following Negroes Raiford Willy & Matchet, my gray mare and ditto and the crop on the James Jones field and my Island field 2nd I lend to my daughter Lydia Jernigan the following property her equal part in the division made by said committee that may be attached to her drawn number consisting of the articles as follows the old rye patch field the crib field & the house field at the Fellows place & the following Negroes Martin Annice Guilford Hannah and my horse mule for which he pays Cullin Howell five dollars on the first of January 1831 & the crop on the rye patch field & crib cut field at P Fellows place 3 I lend unto my daughter Sally Langley the following property her equal in the division made by said committee that may be allotted to her drawn number consisting of the articles as follows my Henry Coor place & the Tom Coor orchards minnerfield & the following Negroes Luke Phyllis Patsy Josiah & my musgrave mare & the crop on the Henry Coor place for which he pays five barrells corn to Cullin Howell out of the present crop & five barrells to Arthur Jones Jr 4th I lend to my daughter Nancy Howell the following property her equal proportion in the division made by said committee that is attached to her drawn number consisting of the following articles my branch fields & manured fields & backup fields & the following Negroes Ben Chancey William & my old house & the crop one house field next to Fellows place & the Tom Coor orchard 5th I lend to my Daughter Charlotte Smith her equal proportion in the division made by said committee that is allotted to her drawn number consisting of the following articles the sharper new ground the corner fields & the Island field at the Fellows place & the following Negroes Leah Esther Jack and Rose & my big mare for which he pays Cullin Howell two dollars the first of January 1831 & the crop on the corner field the sharper new ground for which he pays five barrells corn to Arthur Jones Jr 6th I lend my granddaughter Polly Laper the following property her equal proportion in he division made by said committee that is attached to her drawn number consisting of the articles as follows the old Miles Laper field the Tom Coor long field between the road the Henry & cotton fields & the following Negroes Tom Eliza & Nathan & my gray mule for which he pays Cullin Howell on the first of January 1831 & his crop on own land & this broke up field The condition of the above made & separate loans are as follows that each of my children or there husbands that is willing & will comply the terms shall have & shall receive as above loaned on condition that they pay one Arthur Jones Jr annually what said committee think sufficient to support me and that property I have received for my own use during my life time and to pay a note that I Arthur Jones Sen owes to Sanders Smith he Smith discounting his proportion of said note and delivering it to said Arthur Jones Jr at or before the signing of these transfer keep up all my fence on the aforesaid loaned parts of my land pay the taxes for all my lands & if either of my children should fail to comply with these terms or attempt in any way to conceal or make away of any of this above loaned property it is and shall be in the power of the said committee to investigate said offense if in full investigation should find him or his guilty of said offense shall two or more of said committee take possession of said property loaned to him when as aforesaid and dispose of it as I Arthur Jones directs and I further promise and agree that this agreement shall continue in full force from year to year or until a majority of said committee shall find it advisable to alter or do away said agreement and I further wish the above named committee to divide my property both real & personal if I should not live to see the expiration of said loans which loan is to stand in full force until 1st of January eighteen hundred & thirty one and as much longer as said committee or majority think it advisable as above stated all power resting & forever to rest in a majority of said committee and I further enjoin it on my grandson in law Lewis Laper & his wife Polly to come & live with & cherish me in my old age and see that the property that I receive for my own use is properly managed I being old & infirm not able to attend to myself Signed Arthur Jones Sen (X) his mark
