Wayne County, NC - Will of John Reaves File transcribed and contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Sonya Woosley 6 June 1997 Will of John Reaves Dated 22 December 1834, Probated July 1835 RD-7/32 Wayne County, North Carolina In the name of God Amen I John Reaves of the State of North Carolina and County of Wayne being of sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be to almighty God for the same but calling to mind the mortalityof my Body knowing that it is appointed once for all men to die I constitute make and ordain this to be my Last will and Testament in the following manner and for principally and first of all I recommend my Soul unto the hands of God that give it and my Body I Recommend to the Earth to be decently Burried at the descretion of my Exectors here after named and as Touching such worldly Estates as it hath pleased ole mity god to bless me with in this life I do give and dispose of in manner as following 1 my will and desire is that all my Just debts and Funeral expenses be paid 2 I Lend to my beloved wife Catharine Reaves all my Land that was excepted and reserved for her in the two (tracts) I gave to my two sons David and Robart A Reaves I lend the same to her during her natural lifetime or widowhood also I lend to my wife Catharine the followin negroes namely Ned Loor Milley Tamer and Chelly also I lend my wife two Horses Oxens and cart horse cart riding chiar _____ Four cows and calves three sows and pigs all mu plantation Farming Black Smith tools and all my House hold & Kitchen Furniture in excepting Four Beds & furniture during her natural lifetime or widowhood and no longer also I give her one year allowance to be Laid off to her by me Executors hereafter named 3 Item I give to my son Robart A Reaves all that tract of Land which I have given in a deed containing Five Hundred & Fifty Three acresand a half to him his heirs & assigns forever I also give to my son Robart A Reaves one Hundred and Fifty dollars arising out of the sale of my estate or out of money if any on hand also I give to him Two beds & furniture Horse Bridle & Saddle 2 choice in (case) the Bridle and Siddle are not on horse my desire is that my Executor hereafter named shall get them for my sons. David & Robart and pay for them out of the money arising from the sale of my estate 4 Item I give to my son David Reaves all that Tract of Land which I have deed him containing Three Hundred & Eighty six acres to him his heirs & assigns for ever I also give to my son David Seven Hundred & Fifty Dollars in money arising from the sale of my estate or if money enough on hand two Beds & Furniture one Horse first choice Bridle & Saddle 5 Item my will and desire is that after the death or widowhood of my wife Catharine the negroes I lent her shall be equally Divided between my Seven Children namely Jonas John William Edmond David Robart A Reaves & Civil Fraddock also all the rest of my estate which is not been here before given away my will and desire is that it shall be sold by my Executors on a nine months Credit & the money arising from the sale after paying all my Just debts & (Legacy) before given away to be Equally Divided among all my Seven Children (before) named Lastly I do nominate & appoint my Two Sons namely Jonas Reaves and Edmund Reaves my whole and Sole Executors to this my Last will & Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this the 22 Decmenber 1834 Sined Sealed in the present of us Solomon Grantham Jr John Reaves (Seal) James Everitt Jr Solomon Pope Wayne County July term 1835 This was the within will of John Reaves dec.d offered for probate by Edmund Reaves one of the Executors therein named and duly proved by the oath of Solomon Grantham & James Everitt Two of the subscribing witnesses thereto whereupon it is ordered by the court that the same to recoded As the same time Edmund Reaves qualified as Executor thereto as _____ testementory _____ Jno A Green clk ================================================================ USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
