               Will of Peninah Lewis - 1883

I Peninah Lewis of Wayne County in the State of North Carolina
being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of 
my earthly existence do make and declare this to be my last will 
and testament in manner and form following that is to say 

That my Executor herein after named shall provide for my body a
decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relatives & friends 
pay all funeral expenses and pay all my just debts to whomsoever 
owing out of the first money that may come into his hands as fast
as ___ of my estate

Item 1  I give and devise unto my neice Alice Rose daughter of 
James & Missourri Rose my bed bedstead and all my bed clothing of 
every description to her and her heirs in fee simple forever

Item 2  I give and devise to my sister Missourri Rose wife of James
Rose my entire interest in that tract of land on which Burket Rose
now lives and known as the Emily Lewis land to her and her heirs
in fee simple forever

Item 3  I also give and devise to my sister Missourri Rose above
mentioned all of my personal property of every description not 
given away in a former item of this will to her and her heirs in
fee simple forever

Lastly  I hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friend Fred I
Becton my lawful executor to all intents and purposes to execute
this my last will and testament according to the true intent and
declaring utterly void all other wills and testaments by me 
formerly made

In witness whereof I the said Peninah Lewis do hereunto set my
hand and seal this the 4 day of August AD 1883

to be her last will and testament
in the presence of us who at her
request and in her presence 
do subscribe our names as 
witnesses thereto

February 13th, 1884, Dawson and Minshew were summoned to court to 
execute the will

February 21st, 1884, the will was executed
