First I give to my son Barnaby McKinne one track of land containing three hundred acres lying in Wayne County on the part between Walnut Creek and McGruns and also I give to my son Barnaby McKinne one Negro man named Readuk to him and his heirs for ever. NC Archives. Barnabas McKinne lived on a plantation willed to him by his father "on the Savannah between Walnut Creek and Mrs. Green's." It joined the land where the old Dobbs Courthouse stood and contained a mill and a pond. He is believed to be buried in a private burying ground near the old Dobbs Courthouse with his daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, Gen. Nicholson Washington. Barnaby and wife Mary's children were: Barnaby, Charity, Elizabeth, Henry, James, Kiziah, Mary, Nancy and Richard. ----- Barnaby McKinne Estate papers NC, US, Wills and Probate Records, 1665-1998 November term 1816 - Ordered that Grady Herring, Ichabod Herring and Major Stanly be a committee to lay off and allot to Mary McKinne widow of Barbaby McKinne dec'd her part of the personal estate of said dec'd agreeable to the will of her said husband and report to next court. February 18, 1817 - Agreeable to an order from the court on the 26th day of November 1816 we allotted to Mary McKinne widow her share of the personal estate to wit: seven Negroes Old Tom and Sally his wife, Ailce, Amey, Abraham and Tenor his wife and Reddick. November Term 1817 - In pursuance of an order from the County Court of Wayne we the undersigned subscribers did meet at the dwelling house of Mary McKinne on Monday the 1st day of December 1817 for the purpose of dividing between the three youngest daughters of Barnaby McKinne dec'd (to wit) Kiziah, Charaty and Nancy certain Negroes left by said Barnaby in his will to be equally divided between his said three daughters and set off said Negroes in equal proportions of the whole. Lot No. 1 - To Kiziah the present wife of Joseph Armstrong, Negroes Bob, Lige, Lucy, Lewis, Mariah, Matt, Stephen, Sukey and Wiley. Lot No. 2 - To Charaty McKinne Negroes Abraham, Anne, Charles, Easter, Nanny, Ned, Rachel, Tarleton and Winne. Lot No. 3 - To Nancy McKinne Negroes Cate, Cherry, Gabe, Jim, Liza, Nancy, Ned (Ailseys), Peter and Simon. Respectfully submitted by Wm. Smith, E. Slocumb and S. Lane 1 Dec 1818 - Twelve months after date we promise to pay Nicholson Washington guardian to Nancy McKinne the just sum of $61.25 for value received. Jno. First My will and desire is that all my just debts be paid out of my property by my executors herein after named. Secondly I lend to my wife Mary McKinne during her natural life or widowhood, all my lands on the east side of Walnut Creek being that part of my lands on that side of the Creek that is on the north side of the road leading from my Mill towards Newbern including the Mill and six acres of land on the West side of the Creek joining the Mill - also seven Negroes to wit, Old Tom and Sally his wife, Ailce, Amey, Abraham & Tener his wife & my negro boy Reddick - also my horse called Doctor and my young bay mare & bay horse called Barton, six cows and calves and four ews & lambs and my stock of hogs called Peters Hogs, two feather beds & furniture, two narrow axes, two fluke plow hoes & two cutters, and Toms broad axe, two weeding hoes, two grubing hoes and two sets of plough gear and all the saw & grist mill utencials - also one half of my household and kitchen furniture and one yoke of oxen and one ox cart, and the log carriage for the use of the Mill. Thirdly I give to my son Richard McKinne the land and plantation called the Green Place after the leace expires which I gave to Aron F. Moses - also two Negroes called Toney and Lucy to him and his heirs forever also fifty pounds per year for the time the above named land is held by Aron F. Moses under the leace which I gave him. Forthly I give to my son Barnaby McKinne after the death or widow hood of his mother, all my land on the east side of Walnut Creek that lies on the north side of the road leading from the Mill towards Newbern including the Mills and six acres of land on the west side of the Creek joining the Mills - also two negroes called Ginny and John to him and his heirs forever. Fifthly I give to my son James McKinne all my lands on the west side of Walnut Creek not before given away and two Negroes called Phillis and little Tom to him and his heirs forever. Sixthly I give to my son Henry McKinne all my lands on the east side of Walnut Creek that lies on the South side of the road leading from the Mill towards Springhill and Newbern, also two Negroes called Handy and Margaret, to him and his heirs forever. Seventhly I give to my daughter Elizabeth Washington one Negro man called George and one boy called Randol, one Negro woman called Patty, and one Negro girl called Hannah and one Negro girl called Cass and one boy called Simon and their increase and one Negro boy Ben to her and her heirs forever. Eightly I give to my daughter Mary Moses, one Negro woman called Poppy, one woman called Lettice, one man called Sam, one girl called Sofee, one boy Ellick and their increase also one girl called Piercey to her and her heirs forever. Ninethly My will and desire is that all my Negroes not herein given away shall be divided equally between my daughters, Kiziah McKinne, Charaty McKinne and Nancy McKinne. Tenthly My will and disire is that after the death or widow hood of my wife that all the property which I have lent to her should be equally divided between all my children - also my desire is that after the sale of my property at my death by my executors and thus payment of my debts, should there be any thing left that my executors pay to the guardian of my son Henry McKinne for the use of my said son fifty pounds, and then if any thing left to be divided between my sons. Lastly I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my two friends & son in laws, Nicholson Washington and Aron F. Moses my whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament utterly alnuling and revoking all other wills by me heretofore made. In testimony whereof and in confirmation of the same, I have here with set my hand and seal the thirty first day of July one thousand eight hundred and sixteen.
