Wayne County, NC - Will of John Parks, 1831 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ State of North Carolina Wane (sic) County Know all men by these presents that I JOHN PARKS of the state and county aforesaid on the sixth of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one, being sick but of perfect mind and memory do make this my last will and testament, (to wit) I give unto my beloved wife VICEY PARKS the following negroes, one negro woman by the name of Peg and her two children Will and Martha Jane, Barbry and her children Polly and Carter, Bithy and child Bob, Amey, Ephraigm, Harry, Hampton, Peter to her and her heirs forever. Also two choice horses out of my flock, three feather beds and furniture, two large tables, two smawl (sic) ones, pine brown stool chair and two looking glasses, to her and her heirs forever. Also I lend her one horse five cows and calves, five sows and pigs all of the kitchen furniture all of my farming and working tools of every description, two negro men by the names of Jim and Barny the big field the mill field the house field the new ground field and the orcher ? field, one hundred and fifty barrels of corn thirty five hundred pounds of pork forty bushels of wheat all of the fowls of every description to her during her natural life or widowhood. I give unto my three brothers JOSEPH PARKS, HENRY PARKS, & LITTLEBERRY PARKS the hole of my land to be equally devided between them to them and their heirs forever. I give unto my sister REBECAH PARKS one negro woman by the name of Gatsy and her two children Nathan and Chany after the death of my wife or marriage. To her and her heirs forever. I give unto my sister SALLY SMITH one negro man by the name of Jim after the death of my wife or marriage, to her and her heirs forever. I give unto my sister PATSY TAYLOR one negro man by the name of Barny after the death of my wife or marriage to her and her heirs forever. I lend to my wife VICEY PARKS one negro woman and two children by the name of Gatsy, Nathan & Chany (which negroes I gave to my sister REBECAH PARKS) to her during her natural life or widowhood. All of my property of every description Horses Cattle Hogs or that I have not before disposed of I wish to be sold (except a negro man by the name of Lewis) on a credit of six months and the money arising from the sale go to pay all of my just debts then the balance of any to be equally divided between my two sisters SALLY SMITH & PATSY TAYLOR. I give unto my nephew JOHN PARKS, son of HENRY, a negro man by the name of Lewis, which negro I wish to hiered out until JOHN PARKS arrives to the age of twenty one years, and the money arising from the hire to be laid out for an education, to him and his heirs forever. Also that my wife has the privilege to get rail timber & firewood off of any of my land. The three unnamed fields will be rented out annually and the rent to be equally divided between my WIFE, JOSEPH PARKS & LITTLEBERRY PARKS.
