Wayne County, NC - Will of Joseph Parks, 1813 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the name of God Amen. I JOSEPH PARKS of the state of North Carolina and County of Wayne being weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same. Calling to mind the frailty of man kind, and knowing that it appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this Instrument to Contain my last Will and Testament. Revoking all other wills by me made, and making this in the manner following (To Witt) Principally and first of all I command my soul to God that gave it, and my body to be laid in the dust in a decent Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executor and as to what worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless me, I dispose of in the following manner, (Viz) First, I give and bequeath to my son JAMES, all my lands, with this Incumbrance, that my wife ELIZABETH have the house and plantation whereon I now live during her natural life as a Dower, also three negroes named Hannah, London, Abram and Milley during natural life, also I give to my son JAMES the Negroe boy Abram. Which I lent to my s'd wife and the land and the woman Hannah and Jack and Milley. To him and his heirs forever with their increase. Secondly, I give to my Daughter REBECCA three Negroes named London, Pleasant and Dice and their in- crease to her and her heirs forever. I give to my son JAMES all the rest of my property which I have not given away in Legacies and the increase thereof to him and his heirs forever. Last I Constitute nominate and appoint my Friend SUTTON HARDY to be my Executor to this my last Will and Testament. Revoking and making all other wills by me made in witness whereof I have here- unto set my hand and seal this 18th March 1813.
