Wayne County, NC - Will of James PATE - 1826 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by William S. Pate, Jr. In the name of God amen. I James Pate, Senr of the County of Wayne and state of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory and recollecting it is once appointed for all mankind to die do constitute and ordain this to be my last will and testament in the following manner and form (to wit) I leave to my daughter Aley Pate five shillings. I lend unto my wife Mary Pate all my estate (after all my just debts are to be paid) during her natural life or widowhood and upon her death or marriage for it to be sold by my executor herein after mentioned and equally divided between my three youngest children to wit Henry, Vicy and Winneford Pate share and share alike. It is further my will and desire that if either of my three yongest children should die before they are married or ecome of lawful age that the surviving ones should have their share. I hereby nominate and appoint my friend Bryan H. Pate and my son Daniel Pate executors to this my last will [unreadable word] others by me heretofore made given under my hand and seal this 5th day of January 1826.
