All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Linda Harmon trekkergen@gmail.com July 12, 2015, 5:11 am Source: Raleigh State Archives Written: August 25, 1787 THOMAS SANDERS WILL In the name of God Amen: The twenty fifth of August in the year of our Lord 1787, I Thomas Sanders of the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina being in perfect health of body mind and memory – thanks be given to God for the same; and calling to mind the mortality of the body and knowing that it is ordained for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, viz principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a Christian manner at the direction of my Executors. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life; I give devise, disperse of the same in manner and form following that is to say… I leave this life of one hundred acres of land including the plantation whereon I now live to my beloved wife during her natural life. I give and bequeath to my son Right Sanders the upper part of my land viz from the round meadow to William Lancaster’s corner line thence by a line of marked trees to a marked pine on my line on the South side of the long pond to him his heirs and assigns forever. I give and bequeath to my son John Sanders all the remaining parts of my land whereon I now live to him his heirs and assigns forever. I leave this life of three Negroes viz Lil, Luc, and Arthur to my beloved wife during her life or widowhood after her death or marriage, I give and bequeath the said Lil and Arthur to my son, Right Sanders and the said Luc I give and bequeath to my son John Sanders. I give and bequeath to my son Benjamin Sanders twenty shillings only. I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Sanders one Negro girl named Chancy. I give and bequeath to my daughter Penny Sanders one Negro girl named Ginney. I give and bequeath to my daughter Annie Sanders one Negro girl named Easter. I give and bequeath to my son Right Sanders one Negro boy named Peter. I give and bequeath to my son John Sanders one Negro boy named Redick. And my will and desire is that my two sons, Right and John Sanders remain with their mother or be bound out as my Executors shall think best for their education. And my will and desire is that all my movable estate be left in the care of my beloved wife during her widowhood and the necessary part to be applied to the life of raising and educating of my children and at the time of their going for themselves if their mother and my executors shall think that there can be a small part spared and the others not suffer, my will is that my wife and my executors give out to each child as they go for themselves such things as they shall think proper appraising what each child shall have and at the death or marriage of my beloved wife, my will is that what is there remaining of my moveable estate be sold by my executors and with the money and appraising such make an equal division among all my aforesaid children – and I do hereby constitute make and ordain my two friends, Benjamin Fort and William Lancaster, my Executors of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disavowed all every other former testaments wills and legacies, bequeaths and executors by me in any way before this time name willed and bequeathed. And confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament in writing whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
