Wayne County, NC - Will of Lewis Sasser, 1882 ~~~~~~~~~~ NC State Archives C.R. 103.801.1-18 1776-1927 Sasser, Lewis-1882 Lewis Sasser Will Recorded January 17th [18]82 I Lewis Sasser of Wayne County, Being of sound mind, do hereby make this my last will & testament. Item 1| I give & devise to my grandson, Thomas L. Ingram, one hundred acres of land, adjoining the land of the late William B Carr & the late Charlotte Ingram, in Fork Township, in said County, & bounded as follows, beginning at the corner of Alley Jones’ dower line in Poplar branch & runs down said branch to the ditch, then down said ditch to John C. Pender’s line, then down said Pender’s line to William B. Carr’s line – then with the latter to the corner between myself & said Carr, & then with my line to the beginning - & if the land within said lines shall not be one hundred acres, then enough to be cut off my Fleet Coon tract adjoining the above to make on hundred acres. Item 2| I give & devise to my son Lafayette Sasser, the following land, situate in Fork Township in said county, beginning in the old road, Nancy Howell’s corner & run with her line & mine, a straight line to the John C. Pender line, a corner white oak & hickory – then with said Pender’s & Howell line to the old cross paths, a black gum corner. Then with the line of the land I sold to said Lafayette Sasser to a Holly in the old Farmer line. giving & devising to said Lafayette all my land east of the above lines, not otherwise disposed of, & containing several tracts. Item 3| I give & devise to my daughter, Mary L. Perry, the following land, situate in said Fork Township, beginning at a black gum corner in the old Farmer line, known as the Micajah Cox corner an run a straight line up the Michajah Cox line to the old road just above where Saunders Smith formerly lived. Then a straight line to where the ditch crosses the road leading from my house to the Beaver dam below the gate that goes into the Handley field. Then down said ditch to an old dead poplar, a corner of the land I bought from John T. Kennedy & wife. Then a straight line to the big ditch in the [pocopin] branch, then up said ditch to where it fork at the lower end of the Roberson field, then up the left prong of said ditch to the woods, then up the drain to where Ed Mitchell’s new ditch runs into said drain, then up the latter ditch to the line between me said Mitchell, then the line between me said Mitchell to the big ditch of the [pocosin] branch, then up the cross fence between me & Lafayette Sasser to the corner at the big bridge across the old road, to include all the land I own on the east side of said lines, not other wise disposed of. Item 4| I give & devise to my daughter, Patsey I. Yelverton, the following land situate in said Fork Township, beginning at the big ditch where Mary L. Perry’s line strikes the same (as set forth in item 3 above) & runs down said ditch to the mouth of it, then down the meanders of the [pocosin] branch to the fork of the latter & Charles’ branch to a water oak on the bank of the branch known as Michajah Cox’s corner, she to have all my land on the south side of said lines. Item 5| I give & devise to my daughter, Julia M. Gurley, all my land lying on the South side of the line named in item 4. Item 6| I further direct that the lands above devised to my daughters, Mary, Patsey & Julia, shall be valued by three men to be selected by my said daughters (said valuation not to include any improvement made by them on their husbands) so as to make and equal valuation between them for said land. The more valuable share or shares to be charged with such sum or sums of money and will make each one’s share equal in value. Item 7| I direct that my executor sell all my personal estate, & from the proceeds of sales, & what may be due me from any source, after payment of my debts, funeral expenses, & expenses of settling my estate, that be pay to my grandson, Thomas L. Ingram, two hundred dollars, twelve months after my death, & that the balance of my estate be divide equally between himself & my daughters, Mary, Patsey & Julia. Item 8| I herby constitute & appoint my son Lafayette Sasser, executor to this my last will & testament. In witness whereof I have herewith set my hand seal.
