"Be it Remembered this Eleventh day of Febuary one thousand eight hundred & forty two, I HENRY SAULS JR. being weak of body, but of perfect sound and disposposing mind and memory, Do make, ordain and publish this as my last will and testament, in manner and form following (Viz.) First, I lend unto my beloved wife POLLY SAULS The use of the land and plantation whereon I now live, Except one hundred acres where my son MARTIN SAULS first settled, during her natural life or widowhood, and further I do lend unto my wife during her life or widowhood one nigro boy by the name of Banger, also one cow & calf together with all my house hold and kitchen furniture and one horse creature her choice, she is also to her choice of cow & calf and I also give her one years provision, ___ Item, I give and bequeath unto my son ABSALOM SAULS the land and plantation that I have before lent unto my wife with all and singular the appertainances thereunto belonging to him and his heirs forever except the comfortable support of my wife, also one nigro boy by the name of Rufus, and one nigro girl by the name Fillis, provided he shall pay or cause to be paid a cirtain note that Council Applewhite holds against me for about one hundred and fifty dollars turn over And one mare his choice, one cow and calf, one company of hogs that he feeds on the back of the plantation to him and his mother, also the bacon and corn that is on hand after taking out his mothers years provision unless there should be more than enough to serve them, also four choice sheep ewes and lambs. (Item) I give to my son ETHELDRED SAULS one negro girl by the name of Mary, provided he will pay two hundred dollars of my debts, if not she must be sold, (Item) I give and bequeath unto my son MARTIN SAULS one hundred acres of land the place where he first settled to be laid of to the best advantage to both places with all and singular the appertainences thereunto belonging, to him and his heirs forever. Also one negro girl by the name of Venis to him and his heirs povided he shall pay a certain note that James Edmonson holds against me. Item, I give unto my daughter SUSANAH YELVERTON [husband Henry Gray Yelverton] one negro girl by the name of Sary to her and her heirs forever also one nigro boy by the name of Shade, (Item) I give unto my son JESSE SAULS one negro boy by the name of Fleetwood(?) and a girl by the name of Jane to him and his heirs forever, It is my desire that the balance of my negros not heretofore lent or given away be valued and eaqually divided between my three sons ETHELDRED, MARTIN & BENJAMIN SAULS, Except my old negro Nancey it is my desire that she shall live with such of my children as she may chose and be supported among them, it is also my desire that Banger be valued at what he may be considered worth after my wifes death or widowhood and divided with the rest between ETHELDRED, MARTIN and BENJAMIN SAULS. It is my desire that all the ballance of my property not heretofore mentioned or given away be sold and all my just debts paid and expenses in any way, and the remainder if any be equally divided Between my three sons ETHELDRED, MARTIN and BENJAMIN SAULS. It is further my will and desire and I do give to my son ABSALAM SAULS all my house hold and kitchen furniture, Except the necessary use of my wife during her life or widowhood, --- Lastly I nominate and appoint Jesse Coleman Executors to this my last will and Testament revoking and annulling all other any former wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
