Wayne County, NC - Will of Penelope Sauls, 1876 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Penelope Sauls, b. Abt 1794, was the widow of Etheldred Sauls, b. 19 Dec 1801 Wayne Co., d. 25 Oct 1859 Wayne Co. Penelope Sauls' will: "State of North Carolina County of Wayne In the name of God, Amen: I PENELOPE SAULS of the County and State aforesaid, being of Sound mind but aged consequently of infirm health, considering the uncertainty of life and the certainty of of death do make, declare and publish this my last Will and Testament - viz: My wish and desire is that my executor hereinafter named shall provide for my body a decent burial and after paying all my just debts, that he shall distribute the balance of my property both real and personal as follows, viz Item 1st I give and bequeath to my daughter MARY L JENKINS wife of J M JENKINS one note which I hold against the said J M JENKINS for about Six hundred dollars dated on or about 1866, which note is now in the hands of Geo _ Strang & Sa_eeds as Attorneys also fifty dollars in cash to be paid by my executor within twelve months after my decease Item 2 I give and bequeath unto FREDRIC I. BECTON my son in Law for and during his life and after his death unto his children ETHELDRED L. BECTON, CORA W. BECTON, GEORGE L. BECTON, PININAH C. BECTON, MARY L. BECTON, MARTHA L, BECTON, RICHARD D. S. BECTON, SUSAN G. BECTON and ELIZABETH B. BECTON my grandchildren to them and their heirs in fee simple forever. This bequest is made to F I Becton for the the express purpose of enabling him the better and more effectually to educate maintain and support my grandchildren aforesaid more successfully, more surely and more completely and certain piece or parcel of Land Lying and being in this County of Wayne, which was deeded to me by J M JENKINS Admst by deed bearing date June 2nd 1868 as the same is recorded in the Land Records for Wayne County in Libr D D No 29 on Page 378 to which reference is hereby made for a more minute description M___ Item 3 I give and bequeath unto my son in Law F I BECTON in trust for his children (my grandchildren) above named all my household and kitchen furniture and all the balance of my property and estate not herein dispersed of, to be held by him in trust for his children aforesaid, and by him to be equally divided between the same as they and each of them s___ Marry or arrive at the age of twenty one years Lastly I do hereby nominate appoint my friend ROBERT YELVERTON Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and annulling all other wills by me heretofore made. JONES North Carolina Wayne County A paper purporting to be the last will and testament of PENELOPE SAULS, deceased bearing the date the 24th January 1876 is exhibited for probate by FRED I BECTON & ROB'T YELVERTON the Executor therein named having reviewed his right to qualify & before the undersigned Judges of Probate for said County of Wayne and the due Executor thereof is proven by the testimony of W. J. JONES & W. J. GILBERT the subscribing witnesses thereto and every fact and clause thereof is considered to be the last will and testament of the said PENELOPE SAULS and is on this the 29th day of March 1877 duly admitted to probate.
