C. Slocumb Wayne County Wills - NC Archives CR 103.801.15 I J. C. Slocumb of the State of North Carolina and County of Wayne do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows. First. It is my will and desire that my executor herein after named shall pay all my just debts out of the first money that shall come into his hands. Second. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife all the balance of my estate, real, personal and mixed, during her life time; and after her death to be equally divided between my four children Thomas, Willa, Charlie and Junans - the division not to be made under any circumstances until the youngest shall have attained to the age of twenty one years. Having but little of this worlds goods to bequeath to my dear family, I leave to them, I trust, an untarnished character, which is a far better inheritance. And I do now most solemnly commit them into the hands of that God, whom I have endevored to serve. He has said "have thy fatherless children and I will preserve them alive, and let thy widows trust in me". Lastly. I do hereby nominate and appoint my son Thomas W. Slocumb my executor to execute this my last will and testament. Lord Jesus receive my spirit Amen. This 15th day of April 1870 acknowledged in our presence J. C. Slocumb and in presence of each other July 18 1876 John H. Powell Wm. H. H.
