Wayne County, NC - Will of Giles Smith, 1862 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ August the 15 th 1852 in the name of God, Amen. I GILES SMITH being of sound mind and memory do ordain and make this my last will. First, there should be enough of my property sold to pay my just debts. My wife NANCY should have enough of my land laid off to her as will maintain her sufficiently during her life time or widowhood and that my property should be divided equally between my children. VIZ: GATSEY, JACKSON, MIRAM, ELEANOR and AMANDA my first wife's children, also OLIVER my second wife's child should have an equal share with the rest, also BARTEMUS and FENNEL my third wife's children should have an equal share with the rest and NEEDHAM SMITH should have nothing at all except what has been given him before. If any of my children should clare (clear) any of my swamp land before my death, they should have their share of land laid off so as to cover it, if they chose to do so. My will is that WILLIAM NEWSOM and my son OLIVER should be my executors. Wm.
