Wayne County, NC - Will of Elijah Smith, 1844

In the name of God Amen
     I ELIJAH SMITH of the County of Wayne & State of North Carolina
being in low health but of sound disposing mind & memory thanks be
to God for the same, but knowing that all men must die do make &
ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner & form following
ITEM 1  I lend unto my beloved daughter SALLY CASEY during her
natural life all the lands my father BENJ. SMITH gave me lying on
Walnut pocosin in Wayne County and also all the lands I bought of
TALTON THOMPSON & wife and after her death to be sold and the
money arising from said sales to be equally divided among all her
children 
ITEM 2  I lend unto my daughter PHEBE VINSON all the land whereon
I now live which I bought of WILLIAM C. BRYAN, during her natural 
life, then I give said lands to all her children
ITEM 3  I give to my daughter CRESSEY FIELDS the sum of five dollars
ITEM 4  I give to my Grandaughter ELIZA SMITH one feather bed, 
bedstead and furniture
ITEM 5  & lastly  After my death I wish my hereinafter named Executor 
to make sale on a credit of six months of all my property which I have 
not heretofore given away either personal or real and after paying all
my just debts and my ______ burial expenses  I wish the residue of
the money arising from said sale if any to be equally divided among my
three beloved daughters Viz: SALLY CASEY, CRESSEY FIELDS &
PHEBE VINSON
     And I hereby nominate and appoint my stepson WILLIAM C. BRYAN
my true and lawful Executor to this My last Will & Testament utterly
revoking & ever disannulling all other Will or Wills by me heretofore
made or caused to be made  In Witness whereof I the said ELIJAH
SMITH do hereunto set my hand and seal this 8th day of Sept. 1843
