Wayne County, NC - Will & Estate Records File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Ron Strickland (Last Will and Testament of Benjamin Strickland, Wayne CO, NC February 17, 1861) IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Benjamin Stricklin of the State of North Carolina and County of Wayne being of sound mind and disposing memory and knowing the certainty of death and being at this time weak in body but yet strong in mind do make publish and declare this to be my Last Will and Testament in form and manner following at the same time revoking and making utterly void of all instruments of writing purporting to be my last Will and Testament by me or in my name make hereby establishing this as my last Will and Testament made this the 17th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty one four (for?) (To Wit) - - - First I loan to my beloved wife all of my land of which I am living on here at my death to her have use and enjoy all and singular (?) all improvements and ? then unto belonging during her natural life. I also loan to her one horse. I also loan her all my kitchen furniture and my household furniture. I hereby give and bequeath to my beloved wife Sally three hundred pounds of fat pork, three barrels corn, ten pounds coffee, ten pounds sugar, five gallons molasses, one bushel salt and one barrel flour. I also give and bequeath to my grandson James Pilkinton forty-two acres of land lying east of my dwelling and farm. The lands of Cullen West, Willie Moring (Mooring?) and others. I also give and bequeath to him eight acres lying on the west side of my dwelling beginning William and Martin Sauls corner and running up the road leading to Speights Bridge 18 ½ (paces?) then running south to Stephen Braswell line to him his life time and at his death to go to his heirs. I also give and bequeath to him one bed and bedstead at the death of my wife Sally. One ax, four splint chairs, one small Buffet. I also give to the said James one hundred dollars in cash if any in my possession at my death. I also give and bequeath to my granddaughter Sally Ann Pilkinton the balance of all my land at the death of my beloved wife Sally. Also a bed bedstead and furniture, one large buffet, one small clock and blue chest, also at the death of my wife Sally all the household furniture to go to my granddaughter Sally A. Pilkinton. One small heifer, I also give and bequeath to my wife and granddaughter Sally A. Pilkinton all the live stock that has not been disposed of at my death. I also wish and desire my wife and granddaughter to have all the (?) and fodder and all other produce that is on hand at my death. I also give and bequeath to my granddaughter Sally Ann Pilkinton three hundred dollars cash. I also give and bequeath to my wife one hundred dollars cash to her use and at her death to go to the said Sally A. Pilkinton. I also will and desire to give in to my grandson James Pilkinton all of my carpenter tools. I also wish and desire all my farming tools to be equally divided between my grandson and granddaughter James Pilkinton and Sally A. Pilkinton as (unreadable sentence?). I also give and bequeath to my daughter Exey Ellis one Bed and bedstead (unreadable sentence?) Sally now my wife. I also give to the said Exey Ellis one hundred dollars in cash if any at my death. I also give and bequeath to Charity Baley (Bailey?) one hundred dollars in cash at my death and if she has not made use of it to go to her daughter Mary Ann Bynum. I also give and bequeath to my granddaughter Mary A. Bynum one hundred dollars which is to be handed out and to be hers at the time she is of grown of age. Further more wish and desire the balance of my property if any be equally divided between my grandson James Pilkinton and Sally A. Pilkinton with such (?) or little (?) Further more I do hereby name and appoint my trusty grandson James Pilkinton Executor to this my last Will and Testament. Apparently, Sally listed in the Will appears to be his second wife? Benjamin Strickland was the grandson of Samuel Strickland JR of Johnston CO, NC and Isle of Wight CO, VA.
