Wayne County, NC - Will of Admiral Thomas, 1878 ~~~~~~~~~~ In the name of God, Amen I, ADMIRAL THOMAS, of the county of Wayne and state of North Carolina being infirm in body and of sound mind and memory and understanding, praise be to God for the same, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following I give to my beloved wife, ELIZER THOMAS, fifty acres of land, containing my residence and other buildings on said fifty acres. The fifty acres of land is to be on the north and west side of residence, during her natural life and then to my lawful heirs. Also one bed, bed stead and furniture for said bed, one sow and pigs, her choice, one cow and calf, one half of kitchen furniture. Also six barrels of corn, ten bushels of wheat, two hundred pounds of meat, ten pounds of coffee, twenty pounds of sugar, five gallons of molasses and one half of domestick (sic) fouls. I give and bequeath to my son JOHN H THOMAS, one dark bay horse, now in his possession, one bed, bedstead and furniture for said bed already in his possession. I give and bequeath to my daughter, AVA BUDD, two beds, bedsteads and furniture for both, one of said beds, bedsteads and furniture already in her possession. Also her equal share in my old tract of land, by paying over to my son, JOHN H THOMAS, thirty three and one third dollars. I give and bequeath to my daughter, LOUISER WHITLEY, two beds, bedsteads and furniture for said beds and bedsteads. Also her equal share in my old tract of land by her paying over to JOHN H THOMAS, thirty three and one third dollars. I give and bequeath to my daughter, SELA (CELIA) THOMAS, two beds, bedsteads and the furniture that her mother gave her. Also one Loom and its fixtures, also her equal share in my old tract of land. I give and bequeath to my son, JAMES A THOMAS, one bed, bedstead and furniture for said bed. Also my children are hereby bound to finish the bed I give to JAMES if not already finished. Also one horse bridle and saddle. Also the land purchased of JOHN LANGSTON, by me. In case the mortgage on the land is not raised by me it shall be raised by all my children equally, if not so done, my son JAMES shall share equally in my old tract of land with my daughters. I do appoint JOHN J HERRING and JOHN H THOMAS my executors of this my last will and testament. in witness whereof I, said ADMIRAL THOMAS, have here unto set my hand this the 12th day of April A.
