Wayne County, NC - Will of James Thompson, 1839 ~~~~~~~~~~ In the name of God Amen I JAMES THOMPSON of the County of Wayne & state of North Carolina being sick & weak of body but of a sound mind & memory Calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed unto men once to die & for better Settleing my worldly Estate do make & publish my last will & testament in manner and form following Viz I lend to my wife all my lands that I don't here after give away one horse one mare two beds & ferniture three cows & calves two steers & one yoke of my work steers the oldest & cart Two thousand weight of fat pork to be fattened out of the crop one negro man named Jacob one negro woman named Hannah one do named Rachel all my crop as it stands & what old corn my crop of brandy Excepted my stock of sheep Twenty five pigs three sows with pigs my still & barrells my beaufat & what is in it my farming tools my kitchen ferniture the property I lend to her during her natural life or till she marrys Ecepting the land & some other property I shall hereafter give away the rest of the lent property at her death sold & Eaquly divided amongst my four daughters ELIZABETH LOTTY SALLY EDNEY ITEM I give to my daughter ELIZABETH PEACOCK one negro woman named Chain with her increase one bed & ferniture what stock they have had that I lent them now I give to her she & her heirs for Ever ITEM I give to my daughter NANCYS children fifty dollars Each JAMES THOMPSON to receive his part nine months from the sale of my property WILIE & JACKSON to receive their fifty dollars Each when they come of age to be paid to them by my Ecetitors (executors) which will be here after named ITEM I give to my son WILIE THOMPSON one negro boy named Levin one bed & ferniture & what stock I had lent to him this bed & stock is that he has had in his possesion for several years also I give him all of my home plantation whear I live this land he has at his mothers death I also give WILIE Jacob at his mothers death to him & his heirs ITEM I give to my daughter CHARLTE (Charlotte) PEACOCK one negro woman named Lucy she & her increase to she & her lawful heirs for Ever one bed & ferniture that she has whear I had lent her ITEM I give to my daughter SALLY BOYTE the Henry Boyte land & one small peace of the Barfield land beginning at Thomas Thompsons corner & run a strait line to Uriah Langston corner inside of his field a corner of a hundred acre piece he bought of John Ellett & two negroes Writ & her increas & one boy named Mose & one boy named Rideck to her & her heirs for Ever ITEM I give to my daughter EDNEY THOMPSON one negro girl named Fanney one boy named Cader one girl named Winny, at her mothers death, I give her George this gift takes place at my death all Ecept Jacob & Winney I give my Barfield land Ecept what I have given to SALLY BOYTE to WILIE & EDNEY, WILIE to have what is on the north side of the road Ecept what lies on the East side of the first pond I wish a corner to be made at the road in the Edge of the pound (pond) and run a north course to Waite Thompsons line EDNEY to have what lies on the East side of said pond & all that lies on the south side of the road Ecept what SALLY BOYTE has to her & her heirs ITEM I give to BENONLY THOMPSON my two year old filley I wish at my death for four negroes to be sold Bob, Hana, Rachel & ____ & all of my other property that is not lent nor willed away to pay my just debts Lastly I appoint & nominate my two friends my son WILIE THOMPSON & my son an law WAIT THOMPSON my whole & sole Ecutors to this my last will & testament I hereby disannul & revok all forms will or wills made by me heretofore rattifing this & publishing it & no other to be my last will & testament whear unto I the testator have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 31st of August 1829 signed sealed and acknowledged JAMS.
