Wayne County, NC - Will of John Thompson, 1808 ~~~~~~~~~~ In the Name of God Amen I JOHN THOMPSON Minister of the Gospel of the County of Wayne & State of North Carolina Being Sick and weak of Body but of a Sound mind and Memory Blessed be God Calling to mind the Mortality of my Body knowing that it is Appointed unto Men once to die & for the Better Settleing of my Worldly Estate to make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament in Form and Manner Following as Viz FIRST I Desire all my Just Debts to be paid by my Excutors ITEM I give and Bequest unto my Beloved wife SARAH my Bofat and Firneture one Riding Chair & Harness and her Choice of my Horses one Desk and one Chest one Yoke of Stiurs Two Cows & Calves Three Sows and Pigs Two Beds and Firneture one sett of Fire Dogs one Pot kittle and Tea kittle one Case of knives and Forks Six pewter Spoons one Frying pan Two Fluke Plows and one Cutter three weading hoes I lend to my Beloved wife one Negro Boy Name Peter During her Natural life I also lend her my Plantation and all the Lands thereunto Belonging with all its Appurtanances Thereunto Belonging and one Negro Simon During her Natural life or Widowhood and it is my Will and Desire that the Orchard be duly Attended to in keeping it well Prooned and well Broke up once in every year and no Small Grain Sowed therein and not to cultivate any Part of the Land in Corn more thin Two years Sucessively but may Sow it with Small Grain every year, and she is not to Settle any Family or Persons on the said Land nor into the House Unless a Man to Conduct her Business for her ITEM I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter PATTEY one Bed and Firneture one Chest one Womans Saddle one Bed and Firniture and after my Decease I Desire all my Estate that has not been heretofore Named Sold and After Reducting out of my son STEPHENS part Fifty Dollars and my son SILASES (SILAS'S) part Thirty and my Just Debts paid and the Expenses of settleing my Estate then Occurred the money to be Equally Devided Between my Eight Children hereafter Named SILAS, PATTEY, STEPHEN, JOHN, EPHRAIM, CHARITY, BENNIT and REUBEN. I Desire my son REUBEN be Bound until Twenty one years Old unto George Nance of Wake County to learn his Trade. ITEM After the Death or Widowhood of my wife I Desire my Plantation and all my Lands and Premises with all that I have lent her thereon During her widowhood to be sold and after Reducting out Fifteen Dollars CHARITYS part I Desire the Monies arising therefrom to be Equally Devided Between my Eight Children Before Named and after the Decease of my wife I Desire the Negro Peter I lent her to be sold and the Money to be Equally Devided Between my Eight Children Before Named it is my will for my Daughter CHARITY have a bed and Fineture in Stead of the Fifteen Dollars that is Reducted out of her share of the Money to be Devided Lastly I Nominate and Appoint my Two Friends James Rhodes and Jethro Thompson whole and Sole Executors to this my last Will and Testament Renouncing Disannulling and Revoking all Other Will or Wills heretofore by me made Ratifying and Publishing this and no Other to be my last will and Testament in Witness whereof the said Testator have hereunto set his hand and Seal this 12 day of November in the year of our Lord 1807 Signed Sealed and acknowleded in the Presence of us who in the JOHN THOMPSON Seal Presence each Other have Set our Hands John Howell Rebecca (X) Taylor Recorded July 8, 1808 Wills 1776-1927 CR 103.801.16 Folder 1808 NC State Archives, Raleigh, NC ______________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
