Wayne County, NC - Will of Jonathan Wasden, 1795 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ JONATHAN WASDEN WILL found in Supreme Court Case #5742 THOMAS UZZELL vs JAMES WOOD - Lenoir County, NC Will of Jonathan Wasden In the name of God Amen, I Jonathan Wasden of Wayne County in the State of North Carolina, age about forty four years, being not in bodily health but sound in mind & memory do make & ordain this my last will & testament in manner & form following, imprimis that is to say, that I will all my debts & funeral charges may be paid & discharged by my Executor hereinafter named after my decease. I recommend my soul unto the hands of God that gave it me and my body to be laid in the dust from whence it came. Item. I lend to well beloved wife Sarah Wasden the plantation now whereon I live about two hundred acres with two negro fellows named Lewis & Tom in during her widowhood and one negro wench by the name of Pat & one negro fellow by the name of Shaddin & one negro wench of the name of Suck for her life. Item. I leave give & bequeath to my son John Wasden one hundred & fifty acres of land on Wm. Exum's Mill marsh on the east side to him & his heirs forever - also one negro boy by the name of Simon forever and one feather bed and the first colt Dimond brings & small stock of cattle to be divided at Willis Garner's between David & John. Item. I have give & bequeathed to son David two hundred & fifty acres of land where Willis Garner now lives with one hundred & fifty acres more at the Pocosin joining John Peacock, & one negro boy named Charles and one feather bed. Item. I leave give & bequeath unto Elizabeth Wasden one negro fellow named Tryon one negro girl named Pat at the death or marriage of her mother one horse colt three cows & calves one feather bed one Saddle & bridle. Item. I leave give & bequeath to my daughter Polly one negro girl by the name of Bet and one hundred dollars & one negro fellow by the name of Lewis at his mother's death or marriage one male colt three cows & calves one feather bed, Saddle and bridle. Item. I leave give & bequeath unto my daughter Avah one negro girl by the name of Silvah one feather bed. Item. I leave give & bequeath unto my daughter Sally one negro boy by the name of Peter one feather bed also the three negroes that I lent to my wife for life to be divided my daughters Avah & Sally & their increase. N.B. my wife being with child if born alive I leave one hundred & twenty five acres of land joining the plantation whereon I now live & the plantation that I lent to my wife whereon I now live. Item. I leave give & bequeath unto my well beloved wife Sally Wasden for life six cows & calves three head of horses likewise all my geese & hogs & corn enough to make their provisions & all the fodder likewise & five sows & pigs likewise my still & cask, likewise four Ewes likewise I lend my wife my household furniture and four weeding hoes one grubbing hoe two axes three plow hoes & one cutter & three plow stocks & grear & two Beef cattle and leather to shoe the family. N.B. If any of my children should die without heirs lawfully begotten of their body let it return to their brothers & Sisters one mare to be sold & saddle by the name of Peg and all my property not before mentioned to be sold one hundred dollars and bridle & saddle to be made out of the property that sold and all the remainder part to be equally divided amongst the three youngest children. N.B. I leave James Handly & Wm. Taylor & Sally Wasden Executrix this my last will & testament hereunto I set my hand this fourteenth day of July & in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and ninety five.
