Wayne County, NC - Will of John West, 1794 ~~~~~~~~~~ In the name of God, Amen. I John West of the County of Wayne & State of North Carolina, being of perfect mind and memory, do this 26th day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety four, make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner following (that is to say) First, I lend unto my beloved wife Elizabeth West, the plantation whereon I now live with all my stock of every kind, household and kitchen furniture during her natural or temporal life. Secondly I give and bequeath to loving son Charles West all my land lying on the South side of the Mile Branch and part of a tract of land lying on the North side of said Branch beginning at a white oak and running North to the straight path and with the said path on easterly course until it strikes the line of said Tract & then with the lines of said survey to the Beginning (white oak) and one other tract or parcel of land joining the said survey on the East side containing forty five acres be the same more or lefs. Also I give & bequeath to my said son Charles one hundred pounds current money to him his heirs and afsigns forever. Thirdly I give and bequeath to my loving son Tart West all the remaininder of my land that I have not given to my son Charles West except what land I here after give and particulize in my will. Also one hundred pound current money to be collected from my outstanding to him his heirs and afsigns forever. Fourthly, I give and bequeath to my grandson Temple West two pieces of land containing one hundred acres each joining my land heretofore given on the North side, and one other piece containing fifty acres which I purchased of Amos Boyet lying on little river and fifty acres more to be taken off the land where Calib Howell now lives, to him and his heirs and afsigns forever. I also give and bequeath unto my said grandson Temple West at the death of my beloved wife, the stock of all kind, household and kitchen furniture, which I heretofore lent her to him his heirs and afsigns forever. Fifthly, I give and bequeath to my grandson Charles West Smith fifty acres of land to be taken of the West side of the tract of land where Calib Howell lives or in case the said Charles West Smith should die without any lawful heir of his body then the land to return to his father (Charles West). Sixthly I give and bequeath to loving Daughter Rachael Vinson part of a survey of land lying between Benjamin Vinson’s lands and John Robert’s and the upper prong of the Long Branch to her and her heirs and afsigns forever. Seventhly, I give and bequeath to my loving daughter Sarah Vinson Fifteen pounds current money to be collected from my outstanding debts to her and her heirs and afsigns forever. Eighthly, I give and bequeath to my daughter Alice Vinson fifteen pounds current money to be collected from my outstanding debts to her her heirs and afsigns forever. Ninthly, I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary West all the remainder of my outstanding debts to her and her heirs and afsigns forever. Tenthly & lastly, I hereby make and ordain my two sons Charles West Y Tart West executors of this my last will and testament. In witnefs whereof I the said John West have to this my last will and testament set my hand & seal this day and year above written.
