Wilkes County, NC - Stephen Adams to Jane Laws, 1802 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The following deed entered into the deed book by the clerk from the original, shows Stephen Adams selling his land to his mother Jane (land previously purchased from Jonathan Wall in Jan of 1803), in preparation for his move to Kentucky. The widow Jane Adams had remarried after her husband Jesse’s death to John Laws, Sr. of Wilkes Co. Wilkes Co., NC Land Records – BK C1-F1 1796-1807 LDS Film #0020134 Deed Book E1, pg. 951 17 Dec 1804 Stephen Adams to Jane Laws 100 acres This Indenture made this 17th day of December in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and Two between Stephen Adams of one part and Jane Laws of the other part both of Wilkes County and state of North Carolina Witnesseth that he the s’d Stephen Adams for and in consideration of the sum of thirty pounds to him in hand paid by Jane Laws the receipt whereof he the s’d Stephen Adams doth hereby acknowledge himself fully satisfied & paid and which sum hath Granted & Sold Conveyed and Confirmed and by these presents doth fully clearly & absolutely grant bargain sell convey and confirm to the s’d Jane Laws her heirs and assigns forever a tract of land containing one hundred acres of land lying and being in afs’d county of Wilkes lying in the N. of Lewis Fork Beginning at a branch oak on the south side of said creek thence running round the various courses to the beginning Together with every right title & privilege to the s’d land belonging or anywise appertaining and the s’d Stephen Adams doth hereby bind himself and his heirs & assigns well & truly to warrant and forever defend the aforesaid premises with all he appurtenances to her the s’d Jane Laws her heirs & assigns forever free and clear of all incumbrances and ____ whatsoever.
