Wilkes County, NC - William Laws Land Grant, 1779 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wilkes Co., NC Land Records State of NC Grant to William Laws – Entered 1779 – Registered 1803 Deed Bk C1, pg 348 (LDS film #20134) William Laws 100 acres State of North Carolina No. 2396 Know ye that we for and in consideration of the Sum of fifty Shillings for every hundred acres hereby Granted paid into our treasurey by William Law have Given and Granted and by these presents do give and Grant unto the s'd William Law a tract of Land containing one hundred acres lying and being in the County of Wilkes on the Little Warrior Creek near the fork of the path the one leading to William Triplet the other to Chesley Cockerhams Beginning on two white oaks thence North forty eight poles to a black oak thence East twenty four poles to a white oak thence North eighty eight poles to a white oak and Sourwood thence East eighty poles to a Sourwood white oak thence North twenty poles to a black oak thence East forty pole to a post oak thence South one hundred forty poles to a stake thence West one hundred and fifty poles to the beginning. Entered 2nd of March 1779 As by the plat hereunto annex'd doth appear together with all woods waters runs minerals hereditaments and appurtenances to the s'd Land belonging or appertaining to hold to the s'd William Law his heirs and assigns for ever yielding and paying to us such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time may direct provided always that the s'd Grantee shall cause this Grant to be Registered in the registers office of our s'd County of Wilkes within twelve months from the date hereof (otherwise the same shall be void.) last bracketed words crossed out In Testimony whereof we have caused these our letters to be made patent & our great Seal to be hereunto affix'd Witness James Turner Esquire our Governor Captain General and Commander in Chief at Raleigh the 26th day of Nov'r in the Twenty eighth year of our independence and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three.
