C., September 4, 1832. He was born November 22, 1741, in Baltimore County, Maryland. When he was twenty-one years of age he moved to Frederick County, Va., where he lived for seven years. He moved to Rowan County, now Wilkes County, N. C., in September, 1770. In October or November, 1775, he entered the service as a volunteer in Captain Jesse Walton's company, the first unit which was raised in the county. He was promoted to ensign and then to captain.
