Wilkes County, NC - Edward King Revolutionary War Pension ~~~~~~~~~~ November 20, 1920 Mrs. J.W. Cardwell Winston-Salem, NC Madam: In response to your letter dated the 20th altimo, you are advised that from the papers of file in the Revolutionary War pension claim Rejected File S.942, it appears that one Edward King married in January-1767 in Wilkes County, North Carolina, Feely Lewis. He resided in said county during the Revolution and died in Ashe County, North Carolina in 1800, where she died November 20, 1849. They had ten children, only two survived their parents: John aged 84 years in 1854 and Mary wife of Spencer Mullins. She was 72 years old and a resident of Rockcastle County, Kentucy, in 1851, when she applied for pension on account of her father's service in the Revolution. She alleged that he served as Private from July 1778 for nine months in Captain Bradley's Company, 10th NC Regiment, and from the spring of 1782 to the close of the war in Captain Hadley's Company of said Regiment. Her claim was rejected as she failed to prove that her father was the soldier that rendered said service. Very respectfully, F.D. (illegible) Commissioner Additional information from pension: there is an April 24, 1805 record of the marriage of an Edward King to Lincey Ritchey with her father William Ritchey granting permission in Garrard County, Kentucky.
