C., in May, 1833. He was born in Brunswick County, Virginia, May 8, 1751. He moved to Surry County, N. C. He volunteered for service in the Revolution and was first commissioned a lieutenant. He became a captain in 1776 and served in the Cherokee Expedition. He served in the battle of King's Mountain where he was wounded in the arm and in the side. A third shot passed through his hair above where it was tied without wounding him. In a letter dated Fort Defiance, May 16, 1833, he says that he was Colonel of Cavalry of the 5th Division North Carolina militia and a major general of said division in 1796.
