The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) September 6, 1898
Winston Journal: Allen Whittington, who lives up on Stony Fork Creek, near the
Wilkes and Watauga line, is 101 years old. He has a young wife, aged about 30.
Mr Whittington does his own work and often makes trips to Wilkesboro, a distance
of twenty miles.
