Shirley North Wilkesboro – Elbert David Shirley, 78, of Deep Gap, Rt. 1, died at his home Saturday afternoon after a heart attack. He was born in Watauga County to William and Alvina Greene Shirley. He was a retired farmer and a member of Stony Fork Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Greenville Shirley of Deep Gap; five stepsons, Dale and Severt Triplett of Cleveland, Ohio, Austin Triplett of Moravian Falls and Bill and Don Triplett of Lenoir; two daughters, Mrs. Texie Winkler and Mrs. Ferrell Minton of Granite Falls; four brothers, Enzer and Rollen Shirley of Deep Gap, Obe Shirley of Maryland and Frank Shirley of Roanoke, Va.,; five sisters, Mrs. Lucille Harris of Spencer, Mrs. Verlie Holley of Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Ada Ballard, Mrs. Esther Reeves and Mrs. Anna Ayers of Winston- Salem. The funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday at Stony Fork Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
