Turner Dies Wednesday Paris Vaughn Turner, 81, of Millers Creek Route 1, died Wednesday morning at his home after an extended illness. Born in Wilkes County, May 10, 1892, Mr. Turner was the son of Wilburn and Mary Hayes Turner. He was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church and Mount Pleasant Masonic Lodge. He was a farmer and was a veteran of World War I. Mr. Turner for 14 years served as a member of Wilkes County Board of elections and for 15 years was a member of the Wilkes County Selective Service Board. He was for many years a member of the Wilkes County Republican Executive Committee. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Hayes of North Wilkesboro Route 4, Mrs. D.L. Mixon of Brookline, Mass., and Miss Margaret Turner of Millers Creek Route 1; two sons, Max Turner of Atlanta, Ga., and George W. Turner of Saudi Arabia; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Arvie T. Bell of Hamptonville and Mrs. M.L. Williams of Statesville; and a brother, S.P. Turner of Floral, Ark. Funeral service will be conducted at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel at a time to be announced by the Rev. Frank Herman. Burial will be in Grassy Knob Baptist Church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Wilkes Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
