D.E. Turner Rites Today

Dewey Edgar Turner, Sr., 74, of North Wilkesboro Route 4, oil company owner 
and many years a merchant died at 3:20 a.m. Saturday at Davis Hospital in 
Statesville after several days of illness.

Born in Wilkes County May 2, 1898, Mr. Turner was the son of Wilborn and Mary 
Hayes Turner.  He was owner and operator of D.E. Turner Oil co., Inc., and 
prior to establishing that business he operated a store in the Cricket 
Community for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruby Forester Turner; two daughters, Mrs. Clyde 
Shumaker of North Wilkesboro Route 4 and Mrs.Clate Snider of State Road; a 
son, Dewey E. Turner Jr., of Wilkesboro; a sister, Mrs. Arvie T. Bell of 
Hamptonville Route 2; and three brothers, P.V. Turner of Millers Creek 
Route 1, Wiley Turner of Hamptonville and S.P. Turner of Arkansas.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at Union United Methodist Church 
with the Rev. J. Frank Herman and the Rev. Charles G. Sherrill officating.  
Burial was in the church cemetery.
