Mary “Polly” Howard (1768-1836) Will Wilkes County NC Written: 21 June 1836 Probate: July 1836 Source: Clerk of the Court's Office in Wilkesboro, NC In the name of God, Amen. Know all men by these present that I, Mary Howard, of the county of Wilkes and State of North Carolina, being feeble in body but of a sound and disposing mind, do ordain this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. Viz, I appoint my son, William Howard and Larkin G. Jones my only executors. I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Prudence, and her children, three negroes, viz, Burrel, Milly, and her daughter Myra, which said negroes it is my will that my son William Howard shall keep in his possession and take care of until the youngest child of my daughter, Prudence, becomes of age if he shall remain a citizen of this state; but in the case of his revmoving out of the state, it is my will that Dr. L. G. Jones takes the said negroes in charge for the especial use of my said grandchildren and to be put in their possession as soon as the youngest child of my daughter, Prudence, becomes of age. The negro man, Isaac, I will to my son, William Howard, until all my debts are paid; then I wish him to be hired out by my said executors and his wages given to my daughter, Prudence, to assist her to raise her family and not to be placed in the hands of her husband. All the remainder of my property I give and bequeath to my son, William Howard; viz, the tract of land whereon he now lives, the negro boy, Larkin, the negro woman, Nance and her children and all my stock of every kind and all my household and kitchen furniture; and my son, William Howard, is to pay all the debts that I owe; and it is further my will that the negro man, Isaac, be not sold nor sent out of the country but as soon as the youngest child of my daughter, Prudence, becomes of age to be placed in the possession of the heirs of Prudence Calloway. In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my seal and hand this twenty- first day of June, A.D. 1836, done in the presence of Ike Norton and William Bradley.
