Return to the NCGenWeb Archives Table of Contents http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm#NC ************************************************************************ Will of Moses Johnson dated 13-November-1854 proved January Term Wilkes County 1855 In the name of God, Amen, I, Moses Johnson of the County of Wilkes and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but feeble in body and calling to Mind the uncertainty of this life do make ordain and publish this my last will and testament, revoaking (sic) an former wills now made in the manner and form following: 1st. I recommend my soul to God and my body to be buried decently at the expense of my estate by my executors hereinafter mentioned 2nd. I will that an my just debts be paid by my executors out of my estate 3rd. I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth to wit: my stock of horses, hogs, cattle, sheep and all farming tools and an my household and kitchen furniture and all my Negroes, and Lands during her life and at her decease to be divided as follows to wit: 4th. At the death of my wife, I give and bequeath to my son John Johnson, all my land which I did seige and possessed of, also, my negroes girl Ann and my negro boy Ned and their increase if any from this date to the death of my wife, Elizabeth, to him and his heirs. 5th. At the death of my wife, Elizabeth, I give and bequeath to my granddaughter, Mary Ann Armstrong one negro girl named Grace and her increase if any from this date until the death of my wife Elizabeth. Also, one cow and calf, one walnut table and a small chest of drawers on said table and one corner cabinet and one bed, bedstead furniture to her the said Mary Ann Armstrong and blood heirs of her body and I do hereby appoint my son John Johnson- to act and manage the property for the use and benefit of my said granddaughter Mary Ann Armstrong and the heirs of her body and in order she should die leaving no heirs of her body the above mentioned property will to her I give my son John Johnson and his heirs. 6th. At the death of my wife, Elizabeth I give and bequeath to my son Eli Johnson my negro girl named Nance and one negro boy named to him and his heirs 7th. At the death of my wife, Elizabeth, I give and bequeath Martin Wheatley and Mary Wheatley his wife my negro boy Jabel and also, one boy named Bob to them and their heirs. 8th. I will that at the death of my wife, Elizabeth that my executor hereinafter appointed put to sale all the residue of my property with Peter and Isbell and the money coming from said sale going to pay my debts and the balance to be equally divided between by lawful heirs. 9th. I do hereby appoint my son John Johnson executor to this my last will and testament to carry the same into effect in witness whereof I the said Moses Johnson this day set my hand and seal and do hereby publish and the same to be my last will and testament this 18th day of November 1854 signed selded and delivered in presence of /s/ Moses Johnson David Johnson Joel Johnson Constant Gray North Carolina Wilkes County January Sessions 1855 The execution of the foregoing will duly proven in open court, by oath of John Johnson and Constant Gray two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and John Johnson was duly sworn as executor, and ordered to be recorded.
