Wilson County, NC - Bible of LAMM Family File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jo Webb SURNAMES: DAVIS, EATMAN, FARMER, FINCH, FLOWERS, LAMM, ROSE, THORNE THE LAMM FAMILY BIBLE This copy of THE HOLY BIBLE was printed in 1851 in New York, and in 1977 it was in the possession of Mrs. Rena Farmer Bennett, 602 Hawthorne Lane, Wilson, North Carolina, when the present copy was made by Hugh B. Johnston, Jr. Thomas Ruffin Lamm, to whom the Bible belonged, was a son of Nathan Lamm and wife Lurana ("Laney") Rose. The Wilson County Census of 1860 indicated that Nathan was born about 1812 and Laney about 1819: Nathan was still living at the time of the Census of 1870. In 1860 Thomas Lamm was living with Temperance Lamm, presumably his widowed grandmother; she was born in 1785 and was not listed in Wilson County in 1870. From another source it is evident that Thomas's younger brother Nathan Washington Lamm was born on March 2, 1857, and died on January 12, 1915. The Thomas Ruffin Lamm homeplace was owned in 1977 by Mrs. Lettie Lamm Nichols and is a short distance north of Sims, North Carolina. There was a family graveyard there, but the compiler has made as yet no effort to verify whether or not it is still there, and whether or not there are any visible tombstones. Thomas and Nancy Lamm are buried under tombstones on the N. E. side of the circle that goes around the Confederate Monument in Maplewood Cemetery. During the Civil War, he himself served honorably in Company C. 43rd North Carolina State Troops Regiment, C. S. A. Thomas R. Lamm was born September 20, 1840 and died March 13, 1915. (On March 29, 1866 in Wilson County, with the Rev. T. J. Eatman officiating, he married) Nancy Ann Thorne, daughter of Berry H and Marinda Thorne. She was born June 10, 1847, and died December 30, 1925. Berry Thorne died in June 1850, leaving daughters Nancy and Polly Thorne, and also the widow Marinda who married Martin Ramsey Thorne of Nash County on April 1, 1851. Martin Thorne had married Zina Lamb on January 21, 1845, but no children are of record. Martin and Marinda "Renda" Thorne had children. Martin Thorne was born about 1823. On February 1, 1862, he enlisted in Company D, 2nd North Carolina State Troops Regiment, C. S. A., and after several months transferred to Company B of the same Regiment. He was taken very sick and died in October 1862 at Lovettsville, a little south of the Potomac River in the northernmost part of Loudon County, Virginia. His widow either died or remarried after his death, and by the Wilson County Census of 1870 the four Thorne girls were scattered around in the community (one being already married), but Enos was not listed and is presumed to have been dead.
