D. 1871 between James Hocott and wife Delphia Hocott of Arkansas by their legally constituted agent and attorney Geo Howard of Edgecombe County North Carolina of the one part and Benjamin A. Howard of Wilson County of the other part. Witnesseth that the said James ___ Hocott and wife Delphia for and in consideration of the sum of Five Hundred dollars in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have given granted bargained and sold and by these presents do give grant bargain and sell to the said Benjamin A. Howard, his heirs and assigns this undivided half interest in and to their piece or tract of Land on Little Contentna Creek in Wilson County on the county road leading from Wilson to Greenville and on both sides adjoining the land of Benj Howard, Elias Borgans, Will Felton, Betsy Edwards, Elitha Owens, and Abner S. Eason on which is the dower of Betsy Joynes being the remainder of the Hocott tract after cutting off the piece of 315 acres conveyed to Abner S. Eason by deed of date with these presents a reference to which is hereby made as explaining the land hereby conveyed containg 250 acres more or less to have and to hold to said B. A. Howard his heirs and assignes with all the improvements and appertenances thereunto belonging. And the said James Hocott and wife do covenant and agree to and with the said Benj. A. Howard his heirs and assignes to forever warrant and defend the right to said undivided half interest against the lawful claim or claims of All persons whatever. In testimony whereof the said James Hocott and wife Delphia Hocott by their atty. Geo. Howard do hereunto set their hands and seals this Jany. 27, 1871.
