Wilson County, NC - Letter Eason to Hocott-1889 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Lorene Rambo From a letter from Gaston Eason, Saratoga, Wilson Co., NC to his cousin Sarah (Sallie) Hocott Warren in Red River County, Texas dated March 16, 1889: Dear cousan it gives me great pleasure to answer your kind and welcom letter. I was glad in deed to hear from you and heare that you wer all well this leaves us all well I will answer your kind letter accordin to your disire Father and Mother both departed this life in 1885 their death was caused by heart disease I could not tell the cause of Mothers insanity unless it was ill health or matters of religeon Mother had one more child after your left our house he is now about 18 years old his name is James Franklin Sister Bettie married W. H. Corbett she haves 6 children living an 1 dead Sister Nannie is dead she married W. F.(?) Webb she left 7 children living and 2 dead Richard is married he haves 5 children Joseph is married he haves 5 children I have bin married 13 years and havs no children at all Mollie is married Mr. Barney Barron Sue is single Thomas is maried have 2 children Mollie has no children we all live within 7 or 8 miles of each other all have the same post office I will in quire of the Dew family and let you heare next letter I would be so glad to see you I could tell you of more things than I can write oh when you speak of our youthful days it makes me shivr when we wer small then was our happy days but we didnot know it but now we can think of them happy hours them years and weeks seemed weary and long but now they appear like a Sumerday soon past an gone we must content our minds and study for the future. Uncle James Hocott wrote to me for Fathers and Mothers pictures and I will send them just as soon as I can have them taken and if you want them you can have some artis to take you some from them I would be glad if you would pleas send me yours and your husband taken together and then I will send you ours taken together. pleas write me if you know what ever become of your sister Nannie I never have heard from her since you and she parted. my ocupation is farming the same example that my father set for me pleas write me a long letter tell me your husbands ocupation and ever thing that would gladden my heart if we never meet on earth again we must prepare to meat in that promas land.
