Born in Wilson, NC, he had been a Hampton resident for 45 years. He retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding in 1995 as a Supervisor after 35 years. Mr. Flowers had many loves. He loved his wife and family. He loved going fishing, trips to North Carolina and to Dover Downs. But he also loved doing things to help other people. He was unselfish, to the point that he cared much more about everyone else than himself. He was there to do handiwork for anyone in need. "PaPa" as he was known by the grandchildren, is survived by his wife, Bobbie Flowers; children, Jeff Flowers and his wife, Linda, of Hampton, Todd Flowers of Richmond and Missy Wright and her husband, Will, of York County; grandchildren, Jeffrey "Scottie" Flowers, Jr., Chris Flowers and Katie Wright; sisters, Charlotte Pender and her husband, Elvin, of Fremont, NC, Mable Carol Ordess and her husband, Mark, of Woodbridge, VA, and Bonnie Sue Best of Wilson, NC; and brother, Jimmy Flowers and his wife, Nancy of Wilson, NC. Although it is hard to let Charlie go in the hands of our Father, we know he will be rejoicing with his mother. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Clark Cemetery in Fox Hill by the Rev. Jay Russ and Dr. Charles R. Smith. The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the Massey Cancer Center, Office of Development, PO Box 980214, Richmond, VA 23298. Arrangements by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave., in downtown Hampton, 723-3191.
